Hi everybody! In August 2009 . I had complete mastectomy of right breast because of dcis comedo type necrosis tumor grade 3! I've just found a lump almost exactly where my tumor was! Can dcis get missed and left in the Region?my scar site used to be tight and smooth but now it changed, thought it was my weight. But I'm not sure what to think or do. Has this happened to anyone else? I have no faith in medical percentages. I was told I only had a 5% chance that I had cancer. I had it. My sister in law was told she had 90% chance the she had ovarian cancer and it wasn't! So not much faith in that. Buy if anyone has experienced this please let me know! Thank you!

Yes, DCIS can be missed. The recurrence rate after MX is not 0% because cells can be missed. My BS said that he saw imaging that really shocked him. A radiologist showed him imaging of microscopic ducts that had grown into the skin layer that contained DCIS. He said that he thinks this could be a big contributor to recurrence. Hopefully it's not DCIS, but you should have it checked out ASAP. Fingers crossed for good news!

Cells can be missed, but it could also be nothing, just fat necrosis or scar tissue. I had a mastectomy a year ago and found a lump a year later. So far they say it's atypical cells, but I'm going in next week for a wire guided excisional biopsy to make sure it's just atypical cells and nothing else. Percentages mean squat to me. I was 34 when diagnosed, ate well, worked out, no family history, don't smoke or drink, still got it. I developed a hematoma, which happens in about 1-2% of people. I have these cells that came back after a year.
