Jaw problems with MBC??
I have had pain in the right side of my face for about three months. Getting worse since day 1. I can't open my mouth all the way and I cannot get my dentures in. I had a cat scan done and the oral surgeon says my jaw bone is broken??
Anyone with any problems with their jaw I would like to hear from you. I am of course very scared.
Thanks Rosieo

I am sorry to hear of your jaw pain. If you are taking a bone-directed therapy such as Zometa or Xgeva, you may be experiencing Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ). Symptoms include jaw pain, bone infection and/or inflammation ("osteomyelitis" and/or "osteitis"), bone erosion, tooth or periodontal infection, toothache, and gum or soft tissue ("gingival") ulceration and/or erosion.
People who have been diagnosed with ONJ should seek the care of a Maxillofacial Surgeon (a physician who combines dental, medical, and surgical skills and who specializes in the face, jaws, and soft tissues).A list of Maxillofacial Surgeons by State is located at: People who have been diagnosed with ONJ should seek the care of a Maxillofacial Surgeon (a physician who combines dental, medical, and surgical skills and who specializes in the face, jaws, and soft tissues).A list of Maxillofacial Surgeons by State is located at: http://www.healthgrades.com/oral-surgery-maxillofacial-surgery-directory
I hope this isn't the case with you, but it would be best to have your jaw professionally evaluated and treated.
Sending you best wishes.

I don't have active bone mets so I am not on Zometa or Xgeva but I do have bad jaw pain. For me it is a stress symptom. I have always ground my teeth. Now I grind the c!@p out of my teeth. I put my jaw out all the time. I have a chiropractor who can put it back. Many chiropractors work with the jaw. There are people who know how to massage the jaw.
Some people take medications to manage the stress. I have chosen not to do that. Maybe that's a good decision maybe not.
Exercise, yoga, massage, breathing all works if you do it.
Hoping it is not the ONJ which gets complicated, but you do need to rule that out per Bestbird. If you are not on Zometa or Xgeva, it's probably not the issue. Hang in there.

Thanks for your reply Best Bird and Z
No I do not take Zometa or Xgeva and I don't have ONJ
I had a cat scan which they have told me I have a break in my jaw bone and there is also more soft tissue than shouldbe. I have gone to a radiologist and I am going to get radiation treatments. He said it will strengthen the bone and give me pain relief. I am miserable with not being able to wear my dentures. I am also taking acetaminophen ( 6 to 8 a day) which I know is probably notdoing my stomach any good.
Any one with any experience with this type of problem Would much appreciate. I am a basket case
