Safe Cosmetic Products?
Does anyone have any suggestions for brands of cosmetics that have safe ingredients in them? I've switched out my shampoos, soaps etc. I'm stuck on cosmetics and don't know what to go with.

I haven't used it, but beauty counter is supposed to be a leader in this category. I have a girlfriend who swears by it

Think Dirty has a free app that you can use to either search a product or scan a barcode to get a list of all of the chemicals/ingredients. http://www.thinkdirtyapp.com/about.php
I found very clean products from Acure Organics. https://www.acureorganics.com/

I use Physicians Formula Organic Wear BB cream (ditched my foundation and now use this instead, found in most drug stores) and Aubrey Brand Blush (on Amazon). I've run the individual ingredients in each thru the SkinDeep website. All get a 1 or 2 rating and I'm happy with how these products perform. Don't use mascara and quit using nail polish. Have yet to find organic/safe eye shadow I'm pleased with, but I keep looking.

this is another website that rates skincare and cosmetic brands.
I like mineral fusion, dr. hauschka, gabriel and zuzu cosmetics, and tarte.
I like almost all of the mineral fusion cosmetics, especially the concealer. dr. h's mascara is the best ever, zuzu has white eyeliner, clear mascara and other hard to find product/color combos in natural lines.
hope this helps, good luck! there are also some great 'clean' skincare lines as well!

I've done quite a bit of research on this, both because I have very sensitive skin and cannot use anything with harsh chemicals, and also because I have an on-line business for non-toxic wellness products, so am often asked what cosmetics I recommend.
In addition to those already mentioned, Bobbi Brown uses all natural, totally recognizable ingredients, and their colors are very natural. Each Bobbi Brown counter has a master book that lists the plant based ingredients for every product. Laura Mercier and Clarins are also both botanically based. A less expensive line I like is Boots Botanics, out of the UK. They're relatively inexpensive, available at Target, and surprisingly good!
Good luck! Let us know what you find that you like! I'm always interested! Deanna

hi all!
What shampoo and conditioner do you like? About to go into chemo and will do cold caps. I would like to start using a gentle safe shampoo now with no sulfates, parabens etc. thx!

I use Nature's Gate brand shampoos and conditioners. Lots of scents/types to choose from. On Amazon and our local Kroger just started carrying (in the organics aisle). No bad stuff and my hair feels really good since we started using these products about 2 years ago.

I use make-up very rarely, but Bobbi Brown stuff is really nice.

Thank you, ladies, for sharing the info!!

This is a timely topic for me. My forays into natural makeup haven't been that successful, so I'm interested to hear what others have tried and liked. Some of these natural brands are quite expensive, and there's nowhere to try them before you buy, so money out the window. Thus, my recent plan of action is to try regular cosmetic items that rate well on EWG. This gets complicated too, because EWG does not have many of the brands you would buy at Ulta or Sephora, the mid range or higher end brands. Plus, I think they cannot keep up with ever-changing cosmetics world so some of the rated makeups have been replaced with a newer version.
Last night I went to Ulta and bought L'Oreal lumi cushion foundation because it rated a 2 on EWG, and they have a good color range, which has been the downfall of natural foundation for me. I'll see if I like it and then maybe I can build a day-to day portfolio of makeup that is safer and save my $$$$ makeup collection that could or could not be safe (if only I knew)for occassional use.
All in all, a frustrating journey for me. Combing through EWG, here are some brands, natural and not natural, that I would like to try: Butter London ( I use their nail polish which is a 3) w3ll people, Beauty Counter, 100% Pure...
Keep the suggestions coming, ladies.

I wanted to report in that I bought Burt's Bees lipstick and I love it! I think its a newer product and while its not yet rated on EWG, I put in all the ingredients individually and all were 1 except one was a 2. This has a "satin" finish so not too shiny or glittery but also not dull matte. It stays on quite well too, and I don't feel like I'm putting poison on my lips. I bought two and I'm pretty sure I'll go back for more and throw out the other lipsticks and glosses that I have.
The L'Oreal Lumi cushion foundation (2 on EWG) I like pretty well. Light coverage, good color range. I also bought maybelline eye studio gel eyeliner (2) and I like it too. I've never used a gel but it doesn't smudge which is great.
So that was my inexpensive foray into safer makeup. So far, pretty good.
Does anyone have a favorite body wash? I need super super gentle. I had a favorite body shop shower cream which was super soothing but it doesn't rate well on EWG, so then I bought shea moisture soap but it does leave a film in hard water country, so I'm trying to find a body wash I like.

Thanks for the info TwoHobbies! Can't wait tp try the Burt's Bees lipsticks!
I really like the Aveda shower gels and Alba Botanicals shower gels- I have not searched the EWG ratings for offending ingredients, but I know they do NOT have parabens for sure.
Dessert Essence and 100% Pure brand shampoos and conditioners are really nice, so I am guess their body wash would be as well.
I am also liking Mineral Fusion brand cosmetics but the color ranges are somewhat limited.
Also BeautyCounter brand is very good about keeping their ingredients safe- http://www.beautycounter.com/catalogsearch/result/...
I have not tried them yet, but I will report back once I do!
