ladies,

I had a very unpleasant experience at the cancer center I go to. They made mistakes and kept me waiting for 3 hours before my infusion. I was hungry for lunch the whole time. My blood pressure during the ordeal was the highest reading I had ever seen in my entire life.

I want to fight my cancer not the hospital staff.

Please recommend a good center if you are familiar with any centers. Also if I have chemo at one place do I have to go to the same place for surgery? What about radiation? Thanks ladies! Laura

laura....so sorry you had a bad experience. You are so right. Breast cancer is hard enough without having to deal with poor medical care. Just wondering if you are at a university based teaching hospital. Yes you can be treated for anything anywhere you want! Good luck and keep us posted.

    hi dtad

Yes. I am at a university based teaching hospital. They seem to be too big for their own good. Always have to wait a long time but 3 hours is a bit extreme.Does anyone have any recommendations for a good chemo center? I have 7 more taxol to go! Then I will need surgery and possibly radiation.

Please provide input if you have any. Thanks!

    Laura.

Sorry you are having such a difficult time. You do not have to stay with any doctor or other medical service provider. I started at Georgetown with biopsy and surgery but then got a list of oncologists from my breast surgeon when she determined that I would need chemo. I had my surgeries at Georgetown because I like the surgeons. However, I had chemo with a private oncology practice that has an office near my home. I live in Prince Georges county.

If you need radiation, you would want someplace convenient because it is usually 5 days a week for at least 3 weeks.

If your MO has an office that is at the hospital but is not part of the chemo center then you should ask the MO for a recommendation to another chemo center.

    Hi Laura,

I went to George Washington University to have chemo. It is also a teaching based hospital (not sure if it's the same you went to), but I had a good experience. I did have to wait about 45 minutes after arrival many days, but not 3 hours. I also had a really good experience with the nurses and my oncologist. Good luck!!
