    Great pictures, Karen!

I've been in Florida three times in the summer & it is brutal!

Our plumber friend was here at 7:00 am & construction friend at 8:00. (We are, of course, paying them, but it is really nice to work with friends.......you can trust to leave them in the house, have a more flexible schedule etc. I went to POUND & Yoga and will post a picture of what I came back too. Construction guy will be back this afternoon to do some spackling over where the wallpaper was. I am going to paint....never will I put up wallpaper again!

Noon today (it is actually a pretty small kitchen, and we aren't doing anything structurally, which is why it should go fast):

HOLY COW! What a mess! But, it will go fast and be beautiful in the end! I would like to take out the carpet and linoleum in my house and put in all tile.....but what a mess that would be moving all the furniture!

Just painting is a pain so remodeling has to be over the top! Even cleaning out my garage was a major challenge. mysunshine, I think you should leave Molly (the dog) home on cat duty and take me to Hawaii instead. Molly won't appreciate it as much as I would.

Just about finished in garage this morning then went and worked out in pool for about 40 mins. Still no fitbit but as soon as I order another it will turn up.

this thread just gets better! I love that you share bits of your lives. What is a pot luck social? What is spackling?

walked 3 miles in 40 mins. Cool, breezy and pretty much all downhill.

told my kids yesterday about bc, which I have kept secret from them for 6 months because one or the other was away or doing exams. They aren't kids, of course: 23, 21 and 19. I had my 6 month checkup:no mammogram but a v robust physical exam and all was well. The bs told me to go home and forget about it. I thought i could tell them that it was, i hope, with a bit of luck, behind me. They were laughing and joking together and i was sitting there just trying to get my tongue and lips to frame the words. I really thought i just wasn't going to be able to speak. it was awful..they kind of froze up. I think they are ok now and it's such a massive relief they know.

when i was going in to the bs yesterday, a woman was coming out. I think she must have been just diagnosed. She looked absolutely shattered . She was holding some papers and her hands were shaking. My heart bled for her.

sorry if this is a downer on this very 'up' thread.

Hi grainie, a pot luck social is a party with tons of food prepared by the guests, thus it's in a 'pot' and you get the 'luck' of the draw. The ones I have been to have always been absolutely delicious with so many creative dishes. Lots of fun and socializing.

"Spackling" is what the painter uses when he has to fix the wall after ruthbru removes the wallpaper. Okay, maybe not just ruthbru, but usually the wallpaper takes part of the wall with it when being stripped off and the wall has to be made smooth again.

Also, glad you got telling your kids about your BC. Stress is not our friend on this journey. I think we all probably looked like that lady when first diagnosed. Sad and hopefully she will find BCo just as we did.

Grainne, if you see that lady ever again, give her the web address for BCO.

I was the 'go-for' girl today (several trips to Menards going for various items, sweeping up, dragging stuff to the garage etc.). Geez, I'm almost too tired to take a much needed shower!

    Hi everyone.

Ruth, that looks like a great excuse not to cook!

Grainne- we mix it all up on this thread. We share our lives and oh yeah, exercise too.

I have been progressing through couch to 5k and am on week 5. Been balancing that with my Livestrong classes. Today I did the weight machines, some cycling, the rowing machine(for the first time. What a workout) and ended with a 30 minute Zumba class.

When I was leaving the Y, they had a massage table set up in the lobby for free 10 minute massages. No one was waiting...score!

We have had 2 beautiful days with low humidity. Lovely. Hoping it lasts.

Signed up for a metric century on the Olympic Peninsula for Saturday. Ferry is 6:10a so will be an early start and long day. This is the lavender ride so my nose should lead the way. Should be cool with highs about 70F. So much cooler than last year when I melted and there was not nearly enough food and water. They are doing the hilly section first this year and must have heard us about needing food as they promise refreshments at all the lavender farms.

This should whip my sorry hide into shape for the ride to Vancouver BC next weekend.

Doing just a 2 mile walk this evening as a long day with more work for tomorrow. - Claire

I havent reported in two days and everyone has been so busy. I walked 10 minutes at lunch yesterday, then 35 around 6:30. Today was even hotter so i walked the dog 15 minutes, dropped him back home and contined on for 20.

Karen im glad you had a good trip. The dead sea looks so calming.

I dont know if its post BC or what but im not interested in having "stuff" anymore. I used to enjoy having decorative items, putting up the Christmas Village, etc and i just dont now. I agree that most of it thekids wont want. Live simply with a few treasures.

Great pictures Karen, the time has gone quickly. Grainne it must have been hard to keep your BC secret from your kids and now a relief that they know, and yes if you see that woman give her the BCO info, I've given it to so many people, honestly you learn more here than from any doctor. Great score on the massage Ginger.. Patoo I don't know if your saw my FB post last Saturday - I washed my Fitbit One, I had misplaced it knew it would show up and yes there it was at the bottom of the washing machine, I'd had it in a pocket of my dress then apparently just put the dress in the wash without checking the pocket so keep looking it will turn up, oh and it still works just fine.

Last night went to a Spin class and did some free weights, then tonight did Body Pump and Grit Cardio.

hi everyone. Thanks for all the support. 40 min forest walk with elder daughter tonight.

claire, the lavender walk sounds glorious. Can you put up photos?

My house is full again, after various absences at uni over the last year. My son was on a ' study usa ' programme in pulaski, tn for a year. It was part of u.s. support for the peace process over here. He studied business and ecomomics at martin memorial, and received great hospitality and kindness. I missed him dreadfully and I'm delighted he's back but I'd forgotten how much he eats!! He drinks all the milk and leaves his size 11 shoes all over the place. I love having them all here even if the fridge is permanently empty and the washing machine permanently full.

twohobbies, i know what you mean about ' stuff '. There are some things i just can't be bothered with any more and, I'm ashamed to say, some people. i think it is that I'm not prepared to waste time and energy . I'm looking for an exit stategy at work, which is difficult enough as I'm self employed with a partner. I just don't want to do it any more bc definitely made me look at things differently.

Oh, Grainne, I dream of an exit strategy to working, alas I need the health insurance as does my son. My son is gone for a couple of weeks. The house is cleaner. Less Laundry. My electric and water bill will probably decline. I don't have to worry about his next meal. But I miss him!!!!!

I went for a 15 minute walk at lunch in the cool mall. Waiting an hour or so for another evening walk.

Walked half an hour & did a toning DVD. No 'glamorous' remodeling photos; today was some electrical work, texturing & putting the old kitchen cabinets up in the garage (with will hopefully reduce some of the clutter there!).

I am sitting here watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony right now & whining. I went outside to water the flowers & apparently some wasps (who have been BAD here this summer) have built a hive behind some brick work we have by the front door. As soon as the water hit them, they SWARMED out and bit me several times on each ankle and on one hand before I could escape. Shocked I'm not allergic, but they still really HURT (and rub right where your shoe meets your leg)! WHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Ruthbru, ouch! and ouch, again. Grainne and TwoHobbies, I think BC gives us a different perspective on "stuff", things or people, and their worth. Who needs it. Kids, yes, when they are here we want them gone and when gone we want them back. Just enjoy both times.

By the time I decided to head over to the pool to workout the rain started so no real "exercise" today other than trying to organize my closet.

Ruth: Ouch! I was strung by yellow jackets a few weeks ago and had to take Advil. Sorry about your wasps.

    Karen: Great pictures!

Grainne: I'm sure your children were shocked but it sounds like you handled it well.

I work on decluttering all the time. I just wish I could get dh on board! Loopy

Walked/ran early this afternoon because there was cloud coverage. Hot and very humid.

    Ruth...ouch!!! I have been there.

Patoo....not a walk, but a 100k ride which includes lavender farms. Promise pix. This is an all-day event as need to catch the 6:10a ferry across the Puget Sound for an 8a start. I will be lucky if I make the 7:10p ferry back to Seattle!!!

Off for my walk as was disgustingly productive otherwise today  This included getting to the car wash so I can see where I'm going.

Need to get my cycling gear together tonight so can literally jump into it on my way out the door in the wee hours. - Claire

hi all, good to see everyone moving! Great pix Karen, the time has gone fast as most vacations do.

Ruth, ouch on the wasp stings! They've been bad here too this summer. Yes they have a right to live but not on my porch. Last week I swept away a paper wasp nest being built along the eavestrough by the front door.

grainne, WTG telling your children about BC, that's hard. I remember telling my mom, who was dx w/BC 30+ years ago, and had to face not only her fears for me but her feelings of guilt for "giving" it to me. It's not her fault of course, but the BRCA gene test showing no genetic component eased her mind, and my brother's.

I appreciate you ladies so much! You keep me motivated to exercise and keep me laughing with your great senses of humor. For example, TH walking her dog then her DH, Ruth's wallpaper staying put by force of habit, and grainne's children keeping the refrigerator permanently empty and the washer permanently full.

    45-min walk this morning.

Ouch Ruth hope the pain has eased by now.. Hope you're enjoying your lavender ride Claire.

Well remember a couple of weeks ago I was down about seeing myself on a Body Attack video well today I was invited to an assessment video filming for you guessed it Body Attack, it was hard and so sweaty but I kept up and did the entire filming, I did take the low option a few times on the jumping jacks but I did it, Woohooooo.

    You Rock Cheryl!!!

I mowed only for 35 minutes this evening and had to stop bc I was stung by yellow jackets again! BawlingGood thing I'm used to running. Only stung twice bc I took off as soon as I knew what was happening. When I got inside the house I felt something in my shirt so I yanked it off and a couple a bees flew out. Good grief! All I wanted to do was to mow as much as I could until it go too dark but I decided to call it quits for the night so I could ice my stings.

Hope your stings have stopped hurting, Ruth.

I literally painted from 7:30 am until 10:00 pm, except for 2 hours late this afternoon when DS came by to show off the newest member the family; his new puppy, Stella. What a sweetie! My wasp stings are still killing me. I am finally sitting down with my feet packed in ice! Youch!

It does seem to be wasp season. I pulled up the shade this afternoon and I had four in my window. They come in through our fire place late summer, early fall. I also had a bunch in an empty bird feeder but luckily I saw them before I got stung.

I walked an hour and 25 minutes today. I went my usual lake route but then went up the hill and took the overlook trail too. N

everyone is very active, even just running away at high speed from wasps and bees! Cheryl, that sounds so impressive. You are all struggling against heat as well, which must make everything hugely more tiring.

Ruth, what's the plan for the kitchen? Is it taking shape? What colour are you painting it?

walked for 45 mins at speed. Arrived home purple and panting. Than a small bithday party for my 10 year old niece which involved more champagne ( hurray! )

Nice cool morning, walked 45-min. Need to get some weeding done today.

Ruth, sorry about the wasp stings. Glad it wasn't worse.

My trip has come to an end. Tomorrow morning I head to the airport...I need to leave my friend's apt before 8 to get to the train station. Will probably take a cab instead of a bus to the train. It is about 50 minute train ride to the airport including a change in trains. Counting getting to the airport it is about 21 hours of travel. I fly from Tel Aviv to Toronto with a 2 hour layover, then back to Denver. It's been an amazing trip, but it's time to get back to my DH. My mother is looking forward to me being back too. I have an auctioned packed week this coming week, then I'm back to work on the 15th. Work will definitely get in the way of my walking!!! Lots of walking today took the train to Haifa and went to the Baha'i Gardens. 700 steps in the gardens (steps meaning stairs). I ate a late lunch so going to go shortly for an ice cream. Will get up early tomorrow for one last walk over looking the beach. Hope to go before 6 so I have time to cool down and shower. Below is a picture at the Baha'i Gardens.

Safe travels, Karen. Painted second coats, touched up etc. Along with the kitchen, I am painting the front hall (and closet.....which is a pain) and two bathroom doors. I will send this picture. The teal will be surrounded by off white cabinets (which will go up to the ceiling), and the counter tops have a little swirl of the teal in them. The other walls are a color called Annapolis Grey, which looks grey in some light and more tan in other lights. I am going for a little walk now and then have to do some toning. Too much time on my feet this weekend. Ouch!

Great pic Karen. I remember fondly my trip to Israel in 2012(3?). A trip to remember forever. Wish I could make it back there but probably won't be able (unless I hit the lottery then I will take you all!)

No formal exercise today but back to it tomorrow.

Posting my lavender pictures as promised. Only 20 miles today after the 100k (63 miles) yesterday. Not to mention the 2 hours each way including a ferry ride AND getting up at 4:15 to make the ferry out. Fit and on my game for the ride to Vancouver BC!!

Lavender farm looking north to Vancouver Island and Victoria BC.

    image

Dungeness Lighthouse. Someday, I have to do the ride out there along the spit, plus picnic.

    image

More lavender at Jarden de Soleil. I brought back lavender chocolates and they gave me a bunch of amazing sage which I am using for the duck legs I am making for dinner tonight.

    image

A bit of Northwest color. Looking east to the mainland.

    image

I think this is the most glorious farm view. Right next to the sea.

    image

I made the left turn as advised Happy Still think this is very funny.
