I just got the results that everything came back benign after my biopsy. Is it then typical to have a 6 month follow up?

I believe so, mine was also benign and I had to go back for a 6 month follow up and when that was fine went back to yearly! Praise the Lord for your benign result!

Six month followup imaging is standard after a biopsy even if the result is benign. This allows one to follow the healing process that accompanies biopsy and may sometimes look scary. Mammogram 12 months later (1 year after biopsy) can then be compared to the prior postoperative film and show progressive healing/scar tissue which is consistent with biopsy and not concerning for "architectural distortion" concerning for a new cancer. After biopsy - core or excisional, the post procedure mammogram is a "new baseline" to which subsequent mammograms can be compared.
