Rosevalley - this is for you!

Well. Someone explain to me how it is that I can eat eggs and cheese, tea and keep it down. My DH brings me a smoothie from Costco and I threw it all up? What is up with that? I can't figure it out. My hair is just coming out in clumps I look like I have mange. I am thinking of going down and shaving it. Just calling it quits. Being proudly bald. There is hair on everything. I am tired but otherwise feel pretty ok, sleeping a lot.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Love to all.
Just got back from Great clips... buzzed. It's fuzz all over. Looks better. Hot weather next week.

Oh sweet Rosevalley, smoothies haven't floated my boat for years.
Here's a recipe to be whipped up in a Vitamix blender.* None of the roughage is removed, just pulverized into bulk. There just isn't room in in squished up stomachs for over a quart of "food" - a cup of kale plus two cups of fibrous fruit a cup of cup of liquid and a cup of ice. Not in a boat, not with a goat!
Better yet, feed the smoothie to your goat and tuck into an egg and some cheese - about 1 cup of food that's low roughage, high protein and contains quality fats. This will be nourishing, digestible and managable for us!
Many in the nutrition world think frozen foods aren't fit for timid tummies, but it's 95º here today and I'm enjoying a homemade lime and ginger fizzy drink. That goes down easy and quells nausea and dry mouth.
What's healthy for one, isn't healthy for all!
Wishing you renewed health and well-being every day, my dear friend!
~ Stephanie
P.S. I don't have any suggestions about hair, but hope this helps with N&V - they are so very icky!

Hi Rose! Agree with our Lady Stephanie - eat eggs and cheese. I love that combo! And maybe chuck the smoothie to the animals. Glad you got a buzz/fuzz cut for this heat. Rooting for you to hang in here all summer and more with us. I am heading for Spain/Portugal on Wed for 2 weeks. It's my bucket list -- a cruise plus art museums, history and port wine fix. Will post some pics when I return. Hugs as I swallow my Ibrance. (())
-
Rosevalley, was the smoothie milk based? Milk is very hard on the digestive system. Maybe it was too much. Do hope you continue to keep something down. Hair loss is always hard to deal with. I bet you still look great though. It's more about what's on the inside then the outside. You are such a fighter. Keep plugging along, you have almost made it through the summer. Still praying for you to be comfortable.
-
Dear Rose make sure you find a lovely sunhat to keep your baby buzz/fuzz from burning and please God you can get into the garden.
-
I don't think I have ever been so happy to be home. Yay... we took our kid to a camp on the coast. It was a 2 hour ride on a twisty turny road and I puked 4 times there and 4 times on the way back. I was just MISERABLE with nausea. I took zofran and it didn't help. Nightmare road. I never used to get car sick but this was awful. It was cool and breezy and I had the window down to get air. Ugh so wonderful to be HOME.
I wonder what gemzar is doing to my liver and bowels. Still have loose stools and it's chalky beige. Nutrition wise today was a wipe out. Kandy dairy is the only thing I seem to be able to eat, and eggs. I am so happy to be HOME!! Nothing moving!! I am staying home tomorrow going no where. Sit in my garden and be content.

Dear Rose
Glad you can eat eggs.. They provide the protein you need. Dad says 2 eggs a day is what you just need.
Yoghurt is good and "kefir" is much better. As for it at your local Turkish grocery store. It works best for poisoned people, diahhiea etc.. You drink it. Hope you can find it and it works.
Maybe also try white peel of the watermelon? Both refreshing and boosts the blood white cells especially.
For nausia, I currently use kytril.. I had zofran with taxotere before. Kytril is working, maybe try that?
For reflux, roasted chicbeans are preferred. You can order it from your local Turkish store. They have regular and white flour covered ones. Whites are better .. They fill the stomach for sure..
If you could only eat artichokes for your liver.. Or maybe suck the roots of the boiled leaves.
And Okra for your kidneys.. Best ever..
Mom boils parsley roots, con hair and cherry greens for peeing properly. Helps get rid of that bloating for sure.
Hang on sis!
Hugs & love
Ebru

Rose - car sickness is the worst. Can you take Dramamine next time or send DH alone? Sounds like you have a quick trigger reflux.
Ebru what wonderful ideas. I don't have a local Turkish store. I can find kefir at my local grocery. Sometimes with the milk and sometimes with the healthy foods. My dd and I love it. Many flavors.
-
Rose, so sorry that trip was hideous. I sure hope today with rest helps. Praying that today is much better with no vomiting involved.
-
Oh dear Rosevalley, winding through such a beautiful place and being so sick is irony for sure. And suffering for you.
I'm glad you've got a little breathing space with DD3. You no doubt need the downtime to recuperate from the ride, new treatment, cancer.
May you enjoy grounding in your garden, your home turf today.
Sending a warm, healing hug, Stephanie

Rosevalley, you don't have to get the Turkish yogurt or kefir to benefit from probiotic dairy products. Nancy's in Oregon has great probiotic products. The cottage cheese is full of probiotics and much higher protein - so important when we are draining. We probably benefit more from the full-fat version than the low-fat, but go for what calls you.
Wishing you happy eating.
warm hugs, Stephanie
-
Dear Stephanie,
I agree there are many probiotic products available in the market. Kefir is special, though. Doctors suggest it to badly poisoned people especially.. I hope all sisters get benefit from it.
Hugs
Ebru

I will look for Kefir in our Natural Grocery store, I bet they would have it. Anything to restore normal in my gut. I have been eating Nancy's yogurt the Vanilla one. I mix full fat Greek yogurt with it. The Greek yogurt is too much and mixed together it's perfect -filling and smooth. I have never tried Nancy's cottage cheese. I use Alpenrose which is a local dairy. I love cottage cheese. If it wasn't for Dairy my diet would be zip. Yay for cows!
Anyway yesterday was lovely, A day alone in the garden.. I watered plants, mailed a package and watched the Hummingbirds. We have so many and they are so bold and fearless that I walked outside on the patio next to a hanging Fushia and the Hummingbird kept feeding on the blossoms!! I was 3 feet from the plant! They have no fear. We have a bird bath and it's a hoot to watch the activity.. little wrens that sing before they bathe. The broken spring call of the Tohee's. I love it.
I am going to ask the nurse what the deal is with the extreme intestinal gas and bloating on gemzar. This is outrageous (TMI) amounts of gas and soft stool. I spend all day tooting. ugh.. It's cooler today and the breeze is fantastic... lovely. It's nice to be alone. Got to go drain fluid off. Everyone have a great day.
-
Tell me about birds not scaring away. The other week we went to a pizza place eating ouside. Lots of birda around. We've been used to feeding them with bits of bread etc .. I was shocked one landed on the bread basket and helped itself with the yummy breads right next to my elbow! These guys have evolved! Thinking they are humans
)) we had a cheerful dinner that night. Shame I forgot to take a pic.. Which I'll definitely do next time to share with you.
I learned why it's called Greek yoghurt btw. Because they immigrated to the US before Turks and transferred the yoghurt recipe along. Well, the word itself is actually Turkish
) yet there's no problem on my side calling it Greek yoghurt.
We have very similar cooking culture.. Specific recipes belong to Greeks and are cooked in our kitchens as well
Dolma is another Turkish word meaning stuffed plants, eggplants, grapeleaves etc stuffed with rice.. That's another dish, known as a Greek recipe.
Hmmm. Now ı'm hungry and it's 1 am here
what shall I eat????
Hugs

Rosie.... Are you drinking Aloe Vera? It's at Walmart, for like $7 something a gallon! It works so WELL for digestive issues...! You have to get some.... Yes, Yogurt, Kefir!
I'm sorry, I missed a few pages, starting with you were waiting for a pharmacy to call in a prescription! Those jerks! Are you better now? I would have called SOMEone up, and gave them a WTH for their negligence! You can't mess around with a UTI!
Go get some Aloe Vera.... drink it plain, or mixed with tea, or any kind of juice. I had a bleeding ulcer one time, and it went away! It is an old Indian holistic remedy.... same with ear candles.... I ALSO eat lots of seeds, mixed into one of those Goats-milk logs from Costco! So I mix in Hemp, Chia, Flax, sunflower, Sesame & steak seasoning.... I use Mary's Gone Crackers to put it on! I just eat a few crackers every morning with my coffee... before breakfast! It HAS to be good for SOMEthing!

Great to hear you got a garden day
-
Oh sweet Rosevalley, being back on the ground in your garden sounds like such a lovely recovery from the long and winding road to the coast!
Yes, the hummingbirds (bees, butterflies, dragonflies and other winged friends) are so precious in restoring perspective - beauty matters, joy matters, life matters. We belong for however long, then we're breathed in by these beautiful beings. And we breathe in their beauty.
Whenever I'm pulled off balance, there is solace in nature, friendship, beauty and life-death-life cycle.
It's wonderful to feel part of this.
You've sown a beautiful garden, Rosevalley - the winged ones and you are reaping the benefits.
en-joy, Stephanie

Well I got my chemo gemzar yesterday and it went down with steroids -no issue. I was nauseous and lost my lunch after driving there (DH drove) but I think it's the car ride. For some reason I have begun to be very sensitive to motion and being in the car on long rides. So thank goodness for those emesis cups. Anyway I feel ok now. Just ate fresh cantaloupe with vanilla yogurt one of the best breakfasts ever. Yum. It's cool now but expected to be 90+ later.
In the chemo suite yesterday there was a gal on a clinical trial and she said she had taken gemzar for 1.5 years to control her cancer. It worked. Wow I was pretty amazed. She was stage 4 from the start. I continue to lose my hair.. I had a yellow shirt on yesterday and my shoulders were covered in little hairs 1/8th from my buzz cut.. all over. The nurse said she could see what I meant about hair loss. She thinks it's the effects of the abraxane. I don't know. The gemzar makes he weak and tired but I can eat and keep fluids down. woohoo.
Anyway while it is still cool I am going to go walk my dog. I need exercise. Then drain. Be well fellow travelers!! Blessings to all.

What is so sweet about you, is you find something beautiful or happy, or something gives you pleasure EVEN when you are going through so much! Good job little one!
Okay, get this.... I was driving down the alley, to meet my little Rosie (from Viet Nam) and Janie for lunch at I-hop. I saw this glass patio table just sitting there, by the big dumpster! I thought WTH???? So when I got to where I was parking, I called my Husband, and said "I know what you can get me for my Birthday!" And I told him about this table "present" at the end of the alley!!!! He said "we'll see".... But when Janie called him to ask him something, he said "I got it!" I was sooooooooo happy!I went home, and he had cleaned it, a little.
I finished cleaning it, put my new umbrella down the center of that table, and it is BEAUTIFUL! Hah! I'll take a picture of it tomorrow! It was really heavy also.... but he said he carried it 1/2 way, set it down and rested, and brought it the rest of the way home. Who ELSE would even THINK of doing this???? Hah!

Chevy good for you!! We come from a long line of recycle and up-cycle furniture people. My Mom used to go to thrift and antiques stores and buy the ratty old stuff and transform it into gorgeous furniture. She bought me a desk for 10.00 as a kid and it was the ugliest thing.. brown warped top, long legs with a drawer and shelf. I remember thinking yuck old nasty thing. She took it home screwed the top down smoothed in wood putty, painted it white and antiqued it. The nobs were brass and we shined them up. By the time it was done it honestly could have been in sunset magazine. I was thrilled with my desk. I continued the tradition. My daughter wanted French provencial style furniture. I found a French style side table at goodwill, white, top marked by a curling iron. I sanded the hell out of it and painted it black. The fancy scrolled pull we left white. It was gorgeous. It matched the French headboard I found at habitat for Humanity .. painted it black. She has a lovely set in satin black with bright comforters. This is her place up at college. I paid 12.50 for the side table and 25 for the headboard. The wood is solid and the pieces heavy so they will last. To transform them just took elbow grease and time. I hope you enjoy your table and fancy it up to personal perfection! Just think you saved it from the landfill to be enjoyed.

rose. Hugs. Thinking of you

It's the last day of July and to risk getting hate mail from the rest of the country... I am freezing. It is breezy and maybe 72 and in the shade and in the house just cold. I have a sweat shirt on and for a while a hat on my fuzzy head. I get cold easily and this is ridiculous. Unless I am sitting in the sun I am cold. Forget AC. I guess all those poor souls in hot and humid weather are shaking their heads in disbelief. May you all be happily warm and with those you enjoy and love.
-
Great love for you, dear Rosevalley.
Our heat wave finally broke today and high closer to 80 than 90 or 100. So dry, parching even. But I like it better than humidity.
The sunflowers are really happy!
When I'm up to it, I'll send their photograph.
Imagine sunny, smiling faces beaming for you.
with kindness, Stephanie
-
Take my heat and humidity. It's all yours. Heck, come sit on my front porch. i'll provide endless glasses of iced tea, your choice of flavors.
-
It would be nice to be warm. Passionfruit iced tea.. yum. My DD2 works at Starbucks and I have developed a love for that tea. Good stuff. We don't have hardly any humidity it's very dry. There are quite a few wild fires burning. Stay cool.
-
Well it was a lovely warm sunny day here in Oregon. DH and DD3 took me to chemo and everything went fine. No N/V on the way there. I was nauseous and vomited when we got home after the gemzar. Weird cause it wasn't much took zofran and that took care of it. I only had clear boost and crackers for lunch. I have noticed that fruit juices, iced tea and prepared smoothies cause me to make tons of frothy mucous in my stomach and that makes me throw up. Why I have no clue. It's weird. My H&H continue to drop ever so slightly and my white count is fine. Platelets dropped a bit too but are still fine. Mine have been as low as 10 in 2014. I have increased edema in my feet ankles and shins and my weight is up. drain day tomorrow and I am bloated- the ascites has been unchanged by gemzar. This is such a strange chemo ride cause I am not sure if it's working well. It's 10:30pm and I am wide awake. Steroids I guess. I took ambien an hour ago no effect. They drew a tumor marker and I will be curious to see what it is. I had a friend and her son stop by to visit in the chemo suite and that was great to see them.
Hope everyone is doing well. Hummingbird how is doxil going? I hope you are getting relief. Prayers and lovingkindness to all. rosevalley

Hi Rosevalley - I am really hoping that Gemzar kicks in for you soon and works! Thanks for asking - but same as you, I have no idea if Doxil is working at this point. I thought it was beginning to - as belly swelling decreased on Monday, but now I'm not sure. Will have markers checked on Tuesday. Just keeping my fingers crossed! Wishing you a comfortable day. Hope you were able to finally get some sleep last night!
-
sleep was pretty pathetic up until 11 and then 3 then 5 Am .. dozed back then up at 6! I will need a nap later. My tumor markers came back 660!! Lowest it's been since Jan. Woohoo! That's a 100 point drop in 2 weeks. So why the puking and why hasn't the ascites gone down???? I drained off 1100 this morning and feel better. Filled the container past 1000cc. I hate to break out another bottle since they are 158$ a piece and what if it only filled 250 or more over.. I try to make everything last. Thank goodness for this pleurx drain my life would so suck without this tube. I miss taking baths but it's a better QOL. It will be interesting to see if Gemzar will effect the ascites if the number continues to drop. I am an experiment for sure. I am onthe 3 weeks on Gemzar and one week break.
Hummingbird I hope the Doxil kicks in. We are such experiments. May your gut swelling decrease and comfort level increase. Are you on the 3 weeks on, one off or are you one dose Doxil a month?
