I wasn't all that rebellious but did date a guy my mom didn't like.
Kaption, my workplace adopts a school each year and in Aug we buy them supplies for the start of school in Sep. (To help the farm & tourist industries, our legislature passed a law that school can't start until after Labor Day.) No one spends more than $10 but together we amass an impressive array of needed items like pencils, notebooks, composition books, and backpacks. Maybe you could start something similar in your area to help the kids and satisfy your urge to shop for school supplies. :-)

hsant- I taught grades 2,3,5, 6 as well as Title 1 preschool and Title1 8th grade reading (both for those with special needs). I was curious about education at all levels and types. Then I moved to higher education, and became a professor and program director in education. I mostly taught adults coming back to college to become teachers. They were wonderful students. I taught from 4 year olds to nearly 40 year olds!
Teenage rebellion- not too much. I was pretty boring. Tried smoking in college, but didn't like it. Let's see if someone else was more interesting.
One way I rebelled against my parents as a teenager was...

Kaption, very impressive! I have much respect and admiration for teachers.
There is power in knowledge. There is also power in having a lot of money, not that I would know anything about that.
My parents were extremely lenient. My sister and I didn't have a curfew. We had very few rules, so there wasn't anything to rebel against. We were good kids.

One scary car accident I had (or almost had) was.......
-
This happened a few days ago. There was a landscaping truck parked on a two lane road. I was driving on the opposite of the road, and a car coming in the other direction didn't yield to me, swerved around the truck, and almost caused a head on collision. I was pretty shaken from that experience.
Another situation where I was "all shook up". ...

Ha....here's the first thing that came into my mind.....about 17 years ago, DS's baseball team was in a tournament in the town where I had attended college. We were gassing up the car before coming home & the guy pumping gas next to me stopped and came over. It was my college FINANCE (whom I had had minimal contact with and whom I hadn't seen for years)! We had a very nice chat. I met his wife (who was sitting in his car), he met DH; but I was so shook up, I almost drove onto the exit, instead of entrance, ramp to the freeway!
This is interesting, another "all shook up" situation I found myself in is......
-
Great story, Ruth!! Ha!
Still thinking on my "shook up" story...
Next shook up story...

I have a long commute to work and see a lot of terrible driving. People are impatient and rude. They forget there's a person, not an enemy or a competitor, in the other vehicle. They ignore the laws of physics. Been shook up several times but the closest call was the guy who was driving too fast for winter conditions, lost control on a curve, and spun around the line of cars he had just passed. He somehow didn't hit any of us more sensible drivers, but we all had to brake and some of us fishtailed before regaining control, myself included. Scary!
