Has anyone else had an issue with not finding the biopsy clip after bReast tissue is removed? I had neoadjuvant chemo results show no residual cancer just scaring but the clip wasn't found having mammogram Friday to see if clip is still in me surgeon doesn't know how it could be possible since she removed all tissue confused and upset

Did they do a mammogram of your breast after placing the clip? If so, I would ask them to review that mammogram again. This is the only thing I can think of, if they don't have a picture of the clip maybe the clip wasn't really placed? I wish I had better advice.

steph - the marker can move, this happened to a friend of mine after a biopsy. She did not have breast cancer and so her breast is intact but the marker never shows upon her annual mammogram. Here is a link to another thread on the same subject.

I guess I just wonder where it could move to if they removed all my bReast tissue and it wasn't found should I celebrate and be happy that no residual cancer was found and that I had a pcR or think she didn't get the tumor out ugh I have had issues with every step of this cancer process ijust want it to be over

Mine disappeared somewhere during the lumpectomy. As my surgeon told me, in her cheerful smiling way, "well, you lost a lot of blood,so it probably got washed out."

interesting you say that larkspur I also lost a lot of blood during surgery to the point where I had to get a blood transfusion after surgery so maybe that's what happened? It's not very reassuring though and frustrating

Stephmoen, I suspect that clip disappearance via blood loss is more common than our doctors like to let us know.

My wife is going through the same thing right now, two clips were placed during the biospy, one marking a suspicious area that was not sampled since it was close to the skin, that clip is missing.

Mid surgery they looked for it, and she's had post surgery xrays that cannot find it.

She'll be having a CT scan tomorrow to look for it, but the expanders are likely going to create distortion, and could hide it.

Its created a lot of anxiety for us, one having something missing inside of you, and two not knowing if the tissue that the clip marked was taken.

Our team seems to be doing everything they can to be sure it is not inside of her, hopefully they are doing the same for you

it's an uneasy feeling the hard part for me is the fact I had neoadjuvant chemo I had a mammogram done last week that showed no clip I would think if it was still there it would have showed up so I am satisfied please let me know how your wife's ct scan turns out

Can they do radiation if the clip is still in there?

The clips are very small. Could of escaped during mastectomy. They should have done a mammogram after placement to verify. I have one in me now, after my biopsy they place it. They say it can just stay there it won't hurt me. Turned out my biopsy was b9.
