Hello, I have had breast pain for a little over a month now. It actually woke me up out of my sleep one day. The pain was so bad and I had no idea what it was. The pain got worse and felt deep and sometimes as if I had sharp pains going through. I ended up going to the ER to make sure my heart was ok. My tests came back normal. I recently had a mammogram. I am waiting on my results. My left breast has not stopped hurting. My gyno seemed concerned and is sending me to a breast specialist. Has anyone else had breast pain like this? It feels deep. It started on the left side and now feels like it is my entire left breast especially the top nipple area. It also hurts when I breath deep or drink anything

Hi Tonysmom, welcome to BC.org. We're sorry that you're here and worried, but we're glad that you reached out, and hope you get responses from other community members soon. We know it's scary and the waiting is hard but, if it helps ease your mind, pain can be sign of a less serious condition that is not cancerous, such as an infection or a cyst. Anyway, it's important to get it checked out by a doctor.

Please let us know who it all goes. We're thinking of you!

Yes, Tonysmom, I have breast pain and my recent mammo and follow up ultrasound showed that I have a benign cyst. It still hurts sometimes pretty bad but at least now I know what is causing it. Prayers for you to get answers soon!

thank you! I am hoping it is just a cyst. If only my gyno would call me back. I still need to see the breast specialist though. Unfortunately, my results were sent to my gyno and she is currently understaffed.

My breast pain has been increasing and has now woken me up at night multiple times. Oddly enough, the pain that has been waking me up isn't even in the biggest areas of concern in my breast. This pain that has been waking me up is a horrible stinging/piercing pain on the bottom outter side of my breast and also a deeper, duller than the other one, stabbing pain in the upper outter part of the breast as well as going up into the armpit area now. I do also get pain in the palpable hard/thick areas on top of and on the inner side of this breast but none of these places actually hurt to the touch and nothing has showed on a mammo or us. I have an appt on Tuesday with a bs. I'm hoping to be sent for an MRI, especially with new visible concerns with this breast as well. I hate taking meds, but I'm hoping maybe she can give me something to at least help with the pain that is waking me up at night. I hope you get some answers and relief from the pain soon. I know how rough the pain and the wait can be

Hi Amazon Catwoman. Sorry to hear about your pain. I hope the BS orders a MRI for you. That may be the only way to find out what is really wrong. I feel that my pain has gotten worse this last week. Right above my nipple constantly hurts. It's like someone punch me repeatedly in the boob and it is sore. Is a deep sore for the rest of it. Does your back also hurt? My neck and back seem to be affected more too. I finally got the results from my gyno today. They said the results are normal. No cysts or anything. I have my apt with the BS on Friday. Hopefully she can help me figure out what is going on. Do you ribs hurt? It could be costrocongitis. Let me know how things go.

sry I'm just getting back to you on this. I have a genetic connective tissue disorder (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and maybe fibro (idk about this one really) so I do get pain in all those places you mentioned but I tend to always contribute it to this stuff. My breast pain, however, is not related and is different. I ended up seeing a breast surgeon and she says she thinks it's all fibrocystic breast changes. I'm supposed to take evening primrose oil and use coconut oil on my breast and follow up in late September. If by then there have been no improvements then she said we'd discuss excisional biopsy. MRI was never mentioned, just excisional biopsy. I started taking the evening primrose oil and an antibiotic around the same time and have had horrible diarrhea for like 2 weeks now so I stopped the EPO till my bm's get back to normal. I've read it can cause diarrhea as can antibiotics so I'm just all messed up right now and gunna wait till I'm good again before I try EPO at a lower dose. The pain on the inside of my breast where I have one area of concern has been horrible today. Though it might be something else, I also now have a hard pea size, non mobile lump in my armpit on that side too so now I wonder if this is a lymph node. I'm debating calling my breast surgeon and seeing if they can do something sooner than the end of September. This all just seems too much for a wait that long. I'm glad the results from your gyno were normal. How is your pain? How did your bs appt go?

My sister and I both had breast pain before our Stage 3 diagnosis. Mine was severe...I felt it for a long time and never did anything about it because so many websites said cancer doesn't hurt. Well, IT CAN! There have been many surveys on these boards from women who had breast pain prior to being diagnosed.

So I am thankful you are getting your breast pains checked out!
