    I'm having a lumpectomy with SNB on Aug 4th. Did pre-admission testing today and my radioactive seed insertion is scheduled for the same day as my surgery. I think I'm more concerned abt that procedure than I am my surgery!

    Hi s1d1, and welcome! You'll have to tell me your experience with the radioactive seeds. I won't even get a chance to talk to a radiation oncologist until after the pathology from the lumpectomy comes back.

    Heading for reconstruction on Aug 5. I have had blood work and EKG done last week and go for pre-admission on Monday morning. I then rush across town for my yearly mammogram and a ultrasound.

    Looks like we are all having Surgery around the same time

    B"H Have tentative date of August 18th, even though the results of the biopsy of a suspicious auxillary node and the BRCA testing have yet to be given. Overwhelmed!

    8/6/15 was my bmx with te placement. Never thought a year would come out from sx, but it's about there for me! Still have the te's in but done with chemo and rads. Hang in there and good luck!

    Hi, I am having BMX with SNB on both sides on 8/4/16. I am having reconstruction so will have TE's placed at the same time. I am so thankful for all the women on this site but so sorry we have to go through this! All the tips that I have read about on this site have helped me get ready for surgery but I am so nervous! It is indeed bittersweet! Hopefully since I am at the beginning of the month, I will be able to pass on some tips as well

    thanks so much Bagsharon! B"H isn't a medical abbreviation (there seem to be so many here!) but rather an abbreviation of a Hebrew phrase which means with the help of God.....

    are you still waiting for the pathology report?

    Hi thereisnodespair and thanks. I have the pathology from my biopsy; I was referring to the pathology that will come after the lumpectomy on the 2nd. That will determine what kind of therapy I will need, along with the oncotype results.

    My LX with SNB is scheduled for August 9th. I have been going through neoadjuvant hormone therapy since FEB 2016.

    Milwmama, one day at a time. When you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, take slow deep breaths. I had a partial hysterectomy about 4 years ago. The recovery wasn't bad at all. Just had to keep my dog from jumping up on my lap.

    LoveMyVizsla, how did you keep a Vizsla from being velcro? Such goofy lovable gorgeous dogs! Sadly, I had to put my Vizsla-mix to sleep just last Friday (not that she would have been a problem with my recovery in her twilight.)

    Milwmama, that does sound like a lot of surgery to be done all at once but I'm sure the surgeon wouldn't have recommended it if he or she didn't think you could handle it. And one recovery period has to be better than multiples.

    Bagsharon, so sorry for your loss. They are the sweetest dogs, when they are tired, LOL. It took us a long time to be able to leave ours home alone, definite Velcro dog.

    Hi everyone,

    I finally got my date for lumpectomy and SNB, Aug. 8. Then I have to wait until Sept. 2 for the pathology report! (The surgeon will be out of town till then). I am so tired of waiting. Though I got a very quick diagnosis of cancer, that was back on June 14, waiting till September to find out the pathology seems like a long time to me!

    I have one lump that is 2.2 cm and another small one right next to it, they recommended lumpectomy plus radiation. However they told me the tumour is grade 3 which makes me worry about being triple negative.

    Have any of you had the SNB before and how much can you move/not move your arm afterwards? I had a friend who had this and said her arm was useless for a week.

    Fiddler, I had the SNB. You can use your arm, you just don't want to reach wide for anything. Do you have an oncologist that can get you your pathology report sooner than the surgeon can? That is too long to wait. By the way, I was diagnosed on 10/5, had more biopsies and then surgery on 12/10, with results about 5 days later.

    Lovemyvizsla, thanks. I am in Canada so kind of have to go with the way the system works here. I don't get referred to the medical and radiation oncologists until that Sept 2 appt. Not that I mind--I have had serious health issues for years and I have no complaints about the care I have gotten. Never paid a penny in co-pay, never seen one piece of paperwork!

    I see you are grade 3 and triple negative. They did tell me I am grade 3 so now I'm really scared I will be triple negative too. How are you doing? How is your prognosis, based on the triple negative? My aunt was also just diagnosed and she is triple negative. Trying not to read too much about it but what I have read scares me!

    May I join you ladies. I just had surgery a week ago (july), but now must return for re-excision sometime in the next week or two. Margins need touch up. As for sentinal node removal pain, it wasn't that bad. For me it just felt like having a cut that took awhile to heal. Arm movement was limited for the first few days but a week later I can move my arm freely. Insicion is healed but still a touch sore. I wish you ladies all the best with you surgeries.

    Fiddler, there are lots of women on the TN board who are many more than 5 years out. My prognosis after surgery, chemo and rads is 7-10% chance of recurrence. Hormone therapy won't help me, so no reduction in the numbers from that. All you can do is take care of yourself and do the treatments. And don't do too much reading about it on the web.

    Sorry you have to have a re-excision too, twintwin.

    LoveMyVizsla, thanks for the info. It's good to hear you still have such a good prognosis!

    Twintwin, sorry you have to have re-excision. That doesn't sound like fun. I lived in Calgary for 30 years! I now live in Ottawa--I like it here. They have a Women's Breast Health Centre which has been great (except for all the waiting). Did you find out your hormone status from the biopsy? I still won't find this out until September!

    Another question: I am having lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy on a Monday. As luck would have it (of course), some of my husband's family is visiting that week. How "out of it" will I be? I've had surgery before and I know the next day would not be so good--but on the Wednesday, will I feel/look presentable enough to do some visiting? My husband was suggesting our nieces come early and sleep over on Tuesday night and I think that is way too soon!

    I found out my hormone status from my core biopsy and I was under the impression that that was the norm. I could be wrong but it seems strange to have to wait until September to find out that information. As for my surgery it went very well and I actually felt fine even after I got home that day. Of course your movement will be limited and you will want to rest. But I was up and about the next day. My husband was surprised how well I did. Hopefully second time around will be the same. Calgary is a wonderful city , I love living here. But Ottawa is amazing as well!

    I'm having a prophylactic mastectomy on my right breast & reconstruction of both (with expanders/implants) on August 15th!

    First mastectomy was last Novemeber, followed by radiation, so I had to wait off on reconstruction.

    Fiddler, you should be fine by Wednesday. I slept in the back seat on the way home, but remember being awake on the sofa that evening. DH says I was fine the next day, I don't remember. Anesthesia makes me nauseous, so I asked for a scopolamine patch and it worked great.

    So, it looks like I'm first at bat. I'm surprised how nervous I am. I've had surgeries before that were more severe than this. My husband had a melanoma removed from his back with SNB just last year at the same cancer center where I'm going.
