Not sure if I am in the right place

Options

I am 24, BRCA 1 positive and am getting a bilateral mastectomy in the next year or so. Hysterectomy to come later. I was hoping to hear the experiences of women who are BRCA 1 positive who opted for preventative surgery and those who decided to forego the surgery and be diligent about screening.

    Hi Lemonade-

Welcome to BCO! We hope you find the information and support during your time with us.

We have a forum for members with positive genetic results, where people discuss their genetic results and any action they decide to take. You might find some information there, and be able to connect with other members. You can find the forum here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/112.

    Hope this helps!

My heart goes out to you young woman. What a tough call at your age. I have a friend who just discovered at 65 that she is BRCA 1 positive. Not a thing wrong with her.... No cancer . Some people are just lucky I guess. I wish you well!!
