Help!! I'm in a panic

I have stage III IDC in right beast and am undergoing chemo (tumors are no longer palatable) but now I can feel a small painful lump in my opposite armpit. Is it possible for the cancer to spread to the other armpit? Thanks!!

    Hi Stephydan:

    Any suspicious lump or pain is very upsetting, once diagnosed. While formally possible, I think contralateral (opposite side) axillary lymph node metastases is very unusual, and there are other more likely possibilities, including some benign ones (e.g., sebacious cyst?). However, any lump like that must be checked out promptly by a medical professional.

    Please contact your MO and/or breast surgeon today to report this new symptom as soon as possible, and so you can be timely seen and evaluated by a professional.

    I had something like this a couple months ago. Any chance you recently shaved your underarm? Women get these painful lumps there from shaving. I showed mine to my PCP (that appt was why I shaved my underarm in the first place) and he knew what it was and could tell it was on the skin and not below it. Hope your lump is nothing as well.

    How scary for you. Firstly, it is important to BREATHE.Once we get the cancer diagnosis, our senses are heightened and we see every little bump , mole or gland as a timebomb. Before you panic, call the doc, I bet you just feel a regular cyst or an infection that the gland has caught. Peace be with you friend. keep us updated.

    barredo - thanks do much, you nailed it. Did an ultrasound today, it is just a sebacious cyst. Praise God.
