You are at the right place. This website is a lifeline for women with BC. We are all here for the same reason in various stages and grades. You are early in the process. Please post whatever questions or concerns you have. We aren't doctors but can offer our own first hand experiences. FYI I will be 5 years out next month. So far, so good.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

thank you Edwards 750
I am wondering if it's low grade if there is a chance I will have just a lumpectomy . I have a very strong family history of bc DCIS . My surgeon said I was high risk so he is sending me to an oncologist . So confused as to why an MRI after the biopsy and path report. And why he didn't give more info to me today

Okay you would see an oncologist regardless of the grade. The oncologist will prescribe your treatment after your surgery based on the Path report. I had a lumpectomy followed by 33 radiation treatments and am taking Tamoxifen.
I was DX as Stage 1a, grade 1, IDC. I had the Oncotype test done because my oncologist wanted me to. It's a test that determines whether your particular tumor would benefit from chemo. My score came back low. I have an 8% chance of s recurrence. She ordered the test because I had a micromet in my SN. In past years if you hadany lymph node involvement it meant automatic chemo. Not so anymore. The Oncotype test tells the oncologist specific information about your particular tumor. Doesn't matter if you have a family history or not and btw I do too. My mother had BC and my sister has it now too.
I have to admit I don't understand why you are having a MRI. I would be persistent with your doctor and find out why. You have every right to expect answers to your questions and concerns. It's his job to keep you informed.
My SIL had DCIS 8 years ago. She had a lumpectomy too. Doing fine now.
Keep the faith you will be okay.

I had a biopsy 4 years ago for a couple suspicious spots it ended up being benign same surgeon. He sent me to an oncologist for genetic testing. I waved it for the fact both my mother who passed from bc and both my sisters had Brcca done. It was negative and both my sisters ended up with bc so I started Tamoxifen as a preventative. I can write a novel on what happened with that. I took it for 4 years had to stop in March for uterine problems that ended up with hysterectomy in June . I was scheduled a mammo and ultrasound same time as my 6 week check up from hysterctomy I live over an hour from my Gyn so it was easier than coming back in a week. I was checking out when the nurse came and said I needed to do more mammo pics. I got the call the next day saying I had an appointment with the surgeon . The surgeon said there were 2 new spots in my right breast and he scheduled the biopsy . I had it last week and got the path report today the surgeon was in a hurry told me DCIS and told me I need further testing starting with an MRI. I asked why he said the oncologist could answer my questions next week and walked out. So now I am am confused and angry for being brushed off
