nipple reconstruction
I keep reading that nipple reconstruction (using skin, grafting, etc) doesn't tend to work long term.
It's very important to me that my new nipples are: 1. not flat (like a tattoo, even a good 3D one) and 2. permanently attached to my breasts (so not the adhesive prosthetics).
Does anyone have reconstructed nipples that they are happy with?

Hi Elise, I had skin graft from top of thigh, along panty line. They look amazingly real, although done only 3 months ago, so I dont know the long term result. Somehow, even the color is right, without having tattoo. As of now I am very pleased!
Good luck with your decision!

I have a friend who is 5 years out and her nipples have flattened a little but still have projection. She said her dr made them large knowing that they would flatten some. She is still very happy with them. I hoping for the same results this summer

I work for a board certified plastic surgeon who does nipple reconstruction. If you find the right Dr. they look great. Ask to see photos of his work. After he does the nipple with surgery, I tattoo color in the office. I hope you find someone! Good luck and God Bless!

I am looking for advice about nipple reconstruction vs tattoos please.
Can't decide

Sugar, - you can see my post above from last June. Six months later I am still very pleased with the results! ( but surely there was more healing time than tattoos! )

Thanks for reply AnotherNYCgirl. Glad you are pleased with your results. I don't think that I what skin grafts done. No more after failed DIEP. Too traumatic for me.

I had my nipple reconstruction done 13 years ago. My ps took cartilage from behind my ear and skin graft from panty line and it is 3 dimensional and still just as perky as it was right after I got it. I didn't need a tattoo as the color turned out right (weird, huh?). So far, so good

I had nipple recon with the origami method a bit over a year ago, then tattoos by Vinnie about 6 months ago. I love the results, they look great! Origami seems to only last if they start out MUCH larger than the intended final result. When I first got mine done my PS warned me ahead of time that they would seem huge at first, and he was right. Now they're perfect.

I had nipple recon , origami method and they look fantastic a year out. Dr said most shrinking occurs in the first 6 months to a year mine did not shrink much. I really am pleased with min

I am scheduled for nipple reconstuction on March 15th. Origami nipple and skin graft from groin for areola. I'm nervous that it won't last or look good......ugh.
-
I know it''s a big ask girls. But Can someone be brave enough to post a photo of the origami groin skin recon. ...please
-
I did origami with a skin graft from my scar line for the areola. I won't post a picture, but I will personal message you one if you want. My nipples are a little long yet. I'm getting a quick fix in the PS office in February.

I am still trying to decide what to do about nipples. Post-op implants 8 months. Has anyone seen or considered the prophylactic nipple/areolas available?
Thanks for any comments.

Hi all
just an update and thanks again for advice. I had nipple tattoos done and although not as good as I imagined they are much better than nothing and makes the implants look more like boobs.
It's good to get to the end of the journey of reconstruction.

Hi there ladies, I soooo confused on what to do now. Thought I had it figured out, I was going to have my nipples rebuilt. Then today after seeing my PS for my post op follow up he said he won't do the nip reconstruction because I had radiation, but he will refer me to someone who would. Sigh...I feel like I have to start back at square one finding a trusted doctor. Haven't heard of this origami process, I'm in the Chicagoland area and willing to travel if need be. Can someone make a recommendation? Thanks!

I had nipple and areola reconstruction 3 months ago and I am very happy with my results. My inner thighs where the areola skin grafts came from was a difficult recovery. The thigh incisions were very uncomfortable for weeks. I'm not sure I would do that part again. The nipples have flattened out some but I still have nice projections. If I wear a thin shirt you can see them but if I wear a thin bralette they are totally covered. My ps originally was apprehensive to do the nipple and areola reconstruction, I think mainly he just didn't have many women who want the surgery. I just had my 2 month follow up with pictures and he said he was going to us my pictures to start a local website women can go to to see great before and after pictures. I'm so proud of my foobs!!
