Endometrial hyperplasia and polyps

I was recently diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and a polyp. I am scheduled for hysteroscopy, polypectomy + D&C in two weeks to rule out uterine ca because of abnormal bleeding. I am 51 yrs old and I really think I want a hysterectomy instead of this procedure. I have to have be out-patient at hospital for general anesthesia as I am not a candidate for a biopsy in the office. I was menopausal before I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had never had any gynecological issues until I stopped the Tamoxifen and Aromatase due to severe bone pain and other side effects. I'm not on any meds and I'm worried that the ovaries are still producing estrogen - my ca was estrogen and progesterone positive. I think a the D&C is just an extra procedure that has its own set of risks........ If the biopsy is positive, I'll have to have the hysterectomy anyway. Any thoughts or anyone experiencing this dilemma???

I was in a similar situation and did an ooph and a D&C at the same time. It was outpatient and I was back to my normal routine the next day, just a bit more tired. The ooph eliminated the remote possibility of ovarian cancer, and made me eligible for an AI.

I'm also struggling with what to do regarding a hysterectomy: I have abnormal paps, huge fibroids, family history of uterine cancer, etc. I got some conflicting info on what to do from my OB-GYN and MO. Before bc I've seen several GYNs - all suggested different hysterectomy techniques but wanted to preserve ovaries, now my GYN wants to remove everything, including ovaries, but MO thinks that I have to keep ovaries and take tamoxifen, although her opinion may change after she will learn that I had BMX instead of the recommended UMX.

There is a site for women undergoing a hysterectomy, http://www.hystersisters.com/  , similar to breastcancer.org, where all possible issues are discussed. You may want to post there to see if they can give you a good advice.

Without a big uterus and fibroids, you may be a candidate for a robotic surgery (da Vinci), you may go home after several hours in the hospital. I know a lady  with uterine cancer who had it - they wrapped all that needed to be removed in some sort of a bag, and safely removed it as a whole. In certain cases, the recovery is very easy, people go for a walk several days after the  surgery, and sometimes have to have an effort to remember that they have to be careful, because they have  internal injuries from the surgery. Sadly, it's not an option for me because of the size of my fibroid and uterus.
