Liver lesions but all nodes were negative
Hi all,
I just received the results of my abdominal CT scan it said:
"Liver/Bilary System: a few small hypodense liver lesions are incompletely characterized:... (and then it goes on to give the dimensions of each of the three lesions. The largest is 1.4 by 1.1 cm)
My breast tumour was 2.1 cm and my lymph nodes were negative. My med. onc. said that "chances are good" it is not a metastasis of my breast cancer.
Has any one ever had mets to liver without lymph node involvement? Also, lungs and bone were clear. I didn't have any brain imaging done.
Any advice/experience you can share would be most appreciated. I am in panic mode once again.
Best wishes to all,
Stephanie

Focus on what your doc said about chances being good of it not being mets. That being said, bc cells can travel through the bloodstream. Lymph nodes are not the only path for mets. Wishing you the best

I know you must be scared, stephincanada. What's the next step to clarify the status of the lesions?

Hi VLH,
Next step is ultrasound, and I am on a wait list for that. If that is inconclusive, I will have an MRI. I think I remember the doctor saying that it wouldn't be possible to biopsy the lesions due to their location, but I admit that I blanked out for part of the discussion once the panic set in. I didn't really hear everything he said. I was so hopeful that I was in the clear (to the extent it is ever possible with this dreaded disease).

I had a case in my family when the person was diagnosed with colon cancer and sent for all kinds of scanning for staging. Liver scan - don't remember what type of scanning was done - clearly showed at least two lesions that were described in the report as 'consistent with metastatic liver disease.' Fortunately, the medical oncologist presented the case to the hospital's medical board and two radiologists who were there reviewed the images the same day and both concluded the lesions were benign hemangiomas that pose absolutely no harm and most likely were there since birth.
Having the images reviewed by another radiologist might be a good idea.

stephincanada,
Hello. Sorry you've found yourself here. I saw your post this morning and want share my recent experience to give you some reassurance.. I recently had an abdominal CT scan for suspected appendicitis. I did not have appendicitis, but the scan showed a subcentimeter lesion on my liver and because of my breast cancer dx in 2014, my PCP ordered an ultrasound. The lesion found on the CT scan were just two small benign cysts that have nothing to do with breast cancer.
I know it is a scary time.. Hang in there. I had a similar dx to yours. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

So happy for you Stephanie!

I am simply to scared to go ahead with the scans...my doctor said when the nodes are healthy there is a 95% chance the cancer is not spread. He told me he would be happy to send me for scans...but I am too chicken at the moment...it is not general practice to scan when the nodes are healthy.
