Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Hello, I just got back from the physical therapist; whom I LOVE (she even let me try on her shoes). Yes, I do have tendinitis; she recommended some shoes, gave me some exercises to do four times a day, and we are doing 6 sessions (every other day) of something called Iontophoresis-Instead of using a needle to deliver medication it uses an electrical current: pad-like electrodes are attached to my calf and small current that runs the medicine through to the heel. This allows the corticosteroid I'm getting to be transported to my heel without using a needle. It takes 16 minutes and is very cool! And the best thing is that she said that I should keep exercising!!! Just wear shoes all the time and don't over do. I will go to Zumba tonight & maybe yoga (although yoga in shoes might feel weird, we'll see). Very happy and relieved!!!

Mysunshine - you're lucky your dog will go for a walk in the heat! Mikey treats heat like he does cold - he minimizes his time out there. He goes out, does his thing, and roars right back inside. Two - I think you deserved that ice cream too!
Enjoyed the pool Saturday - usually it's about a 10 minute walk to the pool, but given the heat it was more of a 20 minute mosey than a 10 minute walk. Yesterday we saw Second City at the Kennedy Center - I don't think these political satire groups have much writing work to do these days as the scripts pretty much write themselves. There were some cute scenes, like one where the Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington and MLK monuments come to life late at night and talk to each other. There was another hysterical sketch where Lincoln used a time machine to meet with President Obama in 2008, President Trump in 2016, and President Kanye West 2026. It was all silly and fun, and sitting in a cool theatre was a perfect way to flee our hot nasty weather.

Mary, Yes, sometimes my dog, Molly does not want to go very far. I have had to pick her up and carry her when she lays down and says, "That's it, mom!" I SURE wish it would cool off!
-
Ruth glad you have a plan to get yourself better!
Claire I want to come for dinner!
So amazingly hot! Good for all of you venturing outdoors!Did upper body workout plus Pilates. Feels good to go to some classes again.
-
hi. I have just discovered this nice cheerful thread. I did no exercise at all b4 diagnosis i feb. I've been doing a fast walk for 35 mins every day for about 9 weeks. I really feel better for it and much more positive snd cheerful. But our weather is so different! We have had a really wet july. Tonight my husband , younger daughter and son went for a walk in a forest nearby. We got thoroughly soaked!
-
Back at the gym feeding the Fitbits. Just finished one of three busiest times of year at work. Can't seem to catch a break. I'm exhausted and trying to get back to the exercise routine. WI'll try to catch up on posts.
Fun with butterflies, Scottie
-
Welcome grainne! The Pacific NW has a maritime climate too, and we....well, we get wet!!! The right clothing does wonders...think wellies and such. I have been out there on days I was forced into fits of laughter because only someone seriously deranged would intentionally get that wet!
As a point of interest, I will take wet and chilly over stifling heat any day.
Promise pix from my hike yesterday when I get time to upload. Just glorious, if a bit toasty. At the same time, there was still some snow on the ground in places so I got to make a snow ball! - Claire
-
welcome grainne! This is a nice cheerful thread. :-)
Walked for 20 mins over lunch break as watching DNC 2nite.
-
Welcome, grainne! A walk in an Irish forest sounds awesome.
Awesome butterflies!
I stood in the back row & did 'Zumba-lite' and did yoga too (with shoes off because you can't do yoga with your shoes on....most of the stuff was on the floor so it went okay).
-
Welcome , Grainne.
Mysunshine that does sound like a great place. Wish I could retire and join you and Patoo.
I'll take the heat over cold rain. Ugh. In fact I'll take snow over cold rain. today we got a break with the wind off Lake Michigan and it was about 82. Went for a walk at lunch and after work-58 minutes total.
Claire I remember as a kid in LA we went to the mountains and saw snow for the first time. We piled snowballs on top of the car with the intent to put them in the freezer but of coursethey didn't make it home. Then we moved and snow was not such a novelty!!!
President Kanye. Oh my that may send me to Canada. Not sure what's worse-president Kanye or First Lady Kim Kardashian.
Gorgeous burp tetroxide( what's that Apple autocorrect?). ...Butterflies, Scottie.
-
Welcome Grainne! Please send some of your rain this way! We are so dry.
Ruth: Sounds like your treatment will get you back to normal. And you get to keep exercising through it all!
Cheryl: How is your car?
Nats: I just read dh your description of the Second City skits. We both agree we would love to see them!
Scottiemom: I wondered where you have been. Hope things slow down for you. Beautiful butterfly pictures.
Badger: I would love to see Herb Albert and Lani Hall!
MySunshine and Patoo: How lucky you are to have so many exercise opportunities right in your neighborhood.
Claire: I bought fresh lima beans at our farmer's market last week, shelled them, and ate them that night. Fresh peas would be just as delicious.
TH: Please send me wind off of Lake Michigan. Sounds heavenly.
HHH = Hot, Humid, Hazy. That's what we have. Walked/ran this morning to try to beat too much of it.
-
Welcome Grainne, I'd love to walk in the forest sounds lovely. Ruth glad you got relief and your PT sounds terrific. Scottie beautiful butterfly pics. Wonderland I had to get a new alternator, it's all fixed and I do need to get gaskets replaced too but I'm trying to decide if I want to go to a Les Mills Super Q in New England next month so I held off with the gaskets. Nats your evening out sounds fun.
Tonight my young Vietnamese friend did a special Body Attack class so I went to that, then I see the video posted on FB ughhh I think I'm moving quickly but in reality I'm not, well I am 66 so I guess that accounts for my slow movements and at least I tried. -
Cheryl how many 66 year olds are out there at all? Not many in my neighborhood. Be proud.
I actually got up and went for a 25 minute walk this morning already. It was so cool and pleasant I thought I'd get the dog and myselfout before work.
-
Finally getting to share pictures from my hike. - Claire
On top of the world.
Dewey Lake...still want to camp there. On the chilly side, because it defeated my friend Louise who will swim in almost anything!
Mountain flowers...avalanche lilies.
Snow to cool off all those sweltering elsewhere. I had to trudge through it for a bit and made a snow ball!
The classic picture of Mount Rainier.
I just love this tarn.
Finally, a picture of me. Yes, I am also 66. AND I am getting a haircut later today. My father's cousin, Leonard, was still doing downhill skiing at 84, so think I have a few more good years of being out there.
-
hi claire. 66??? Really?? You look terrific! All your pictures were fantastic. Where was that and how far did you hike? Do you do that often?
i got NO EXERCISE at all to day. By the time i got home from work it was raining quite heavily again so i did some overdue cleaning and gazed glumly out of the window from time to time. Maybe tomorrow!
-
by the way, hbcheryl, what is body attack?
-
Actually, I don't hike all that often, as cycling is much more my sport. I was resting the "nether regions" following a major event the prior weekend. Will do the 70 mile Tour de Lavender in 2 weeks, and then it's the ride from Seattle to Vancouver BC.
The hike was the Naches Peak Loop, about 100 miles from here in the Cascades. Views were of Mount Rainier and surrounding mountains. Elevation was 6000'.
My quads were talking to me big time yesterday, but have been quiet today. Next weekend, it's back to training rides for the cycling ahead. I also want to get out and cycle Lopez Island in the San Juans...near Victoria BC, but part of Washington State.
So many great things to do....so little time. - Claire
-
Claire: GORGEOUS pictures!
Cheryl: Glad you were able to fix your car. I saw you on the video and let me tell you, you looked fabulous and moving right on time with everyone else!
Walked/ran this morning.
-
I went to Pound and Yoga this morning and Barre tonight. My heel held up alright, but the rest of me is hurting!
Gorgeous pictures, Claire.
It is great when 30 year olds are out there exercising, but it is AWESOME when people in their 50s, 60s and beyond are out there working it. We are so smart (and lucky) to be in that group.
-
Sorry mysunshine, neighbor had dinner party for our singles group so missed your class. Will also miss this coming Sunday but should be back on track after that!
Welcome grainne! This group will keep you motivated.
Yes, it's been very hot here, 106F on Sunday. My car AC died so it's in the shop. Will be a few days while they decide if warranty will cover repair - we all know how that plays out! I don't mind living in the heat but still want to know my AC is nearby.
Did 5-mile Leslie Sansone, Walk Away the Pounds class tonight. Busy day tomorrow but will try and get in early morning bike ride or walk.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Grainne Body Attack is basically a one hour aerobics class, here is a link https://youtu.be/qZaPCcU3Fjo
Beautiful pictures Claire, the Pacific Northwest is stunning. My gosh Patoo no air con in that heat must be miserable, hope it's covered under warranty. You're right Ruth I think my trouble is that I hang around with young people so I compare myself to them. Wonderland thanks for the kind words
Tonight did Grit Strength and CXWorx
-
Welcome Grainne to our cheerful thread! Cheryl - LOL on how we think we look in our minds v. the cruel realities of video. DH usually finishes races a bit ahead of me, so he'll use his cell to video me as I cross the finish line. In my mind I am a strong elegant gazelle crossing that finish line, but when I look at the video I am . . . not. Oh well, as everyone else said, at least we keep moving. Claire - beautiful pictures. Love the patch of snow. I think I remember snow, but maybe it was just a dream. Ruth - glad the heel seems to be improving. Patoo - hope you can get that AC fixed quickly!
2.5 mile run this morning on a warm sticky morning - it was so humid that I wasn't quite sure whether I was running or swimming. They were watering one area on the golf course ahead of me, and I couldn't wait to run past to catch some of the cool spray. But just before I got there they turned it off, so no running through the sprinkler for me. I did see 7 deer, including the twin fawns, but they were just grazing quietly - too hot for gamboling. Grainne - I'd love one of your soft Irish mornings right about now.
-
Hi everyone, tomorrow is my last day volunteering on the Army base. I've been with a great group of volunteers and have made some great friends. I'm in Israel for another 12 days (I think). I'm doing some traveling during this time a weekend here, a night there and there etc. The base is the desert but I've managed to get my steps in by walking at 6am and again at 9pm. On the weekends I've also walked. The program on the base is only Sunday to Thursday with weekend free. I just feel so much better when I walk. I've been in Israel 3 weeks and tomorrow is 4 weeks since I left.... It doesn't seem that long.
-
Went to PT instead of walking with my ladies, but did make it for the most important part....breakfast! I will go to Zumba and yoga tonight.
-
hello all! Just back from a 3 mile walk in 45 minutes. Got my husband to leave off 3 miles up a glen and walked home. Actually managed to enjoy it! It is a lovely dry, quiet evening here. You all seem to get a lot of variety and great fun exercising... I'm loving all the cheerful faces in your photo, ruthbru.
natsfan, I've had enough soft irish mornings to lsst me a lifetime! I'd love a long hot sunny u.s. scorcher!! I live less than a mile from a quiet sandy beach but the water is gaspingly cold!
-
Welcome grainne I believe we are on the T train together. This is a fun inspiring group so glad I found them!
Claire the pictures are breathtaking so beautiful.
Ruth glad you are getting back at it that must feel good.
Karen your trip seems to be flying by so fast glad you are enjoying it.
Did Pilates and walked today
-
Come on over,Grainne. We have plenty of heat for you over here. It is good for swimming.
A bit slower, a bit clumsier(says the woman who tripped on the sidewalk this week) but we are athletes. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
Beautiful hike, Claire. And Ruth I'm not missing breakfast either. Best part.
Turns out Pokemon Go is as motivating as your fitbits. Yesterday I walked three times, morning 25 minutes, lunch 32 and with husband after work-65 minutes. Then I promised myself a rest day today but I ended up walking 25 minutes. I had to go get some more pokeballs.
-
TwoHobbies, did you trip on that sidewalk while looking for pokeballs? My niece walked into a wall while in pursuit
-
Walked down to Dunkin for an Iced tea. Will walk down to get a grinder from the grinder shop down the road from me a bit later for my lunch. That will be the extent of my exercise for the day. Will resume the formal workout when it is cooler, like tomorrow. With all this heat, I have lost 2 pounds of an additional 10 pound weight loss goal I had set from when I hit my last mark
-
M0mmy: Congrates on the weight loss!
Patoo: Hope your car AC is still under warranty. This heat is miserable.
TH: I think it's great that Pokemon Go is getting people out walking.
Karen: Thanks for your update!
Grainne: Right now I would love to take a dip in that gaspingly cold water to escape the heat.
Ruth: Glad you were able to meet up with your group for breakfast.
Nats: I know you were looking forward to running through the sprinkler spray. Maybe next time it will still be on.
Yesterday I walked/ran in the morning. Last night dh and I started mowing the yard at 8:10 and mowed until 8:50 when we couldn't see anymore. The last time we mowed was 14 days ago because it's been so dry here. At this time of the year we should be mowing weekly through thick grass (and weeds). I finished my part of the yard this morning. So freaking hot and humid!
