Hi All,

Do you know about the Dr Sara Ortega in Mackenzie Hospital, Richmond Hill Canada. I cannot find any information about her. I just need advise.

I am 36 years old. After doing core biopcy in Mackenzie Hospital in Richmondill, Canada, I diagnose with intraductal papilloma that i should remove it. I saw Dr Sara Ortega and I did not have a confidence to go under surgery with her.

I request from My family doctor to send me to Sunnybrook hospital to see Dr. Holloway. unfortunately, i received the call that they will not accept my case since I already did all of my diagnosis with Mackenzie hospital.

Warm regards,

Mahsa

Ask if there is another doctor at Mackenzie that will give you a second opinion.

you can have another opinion at any of the hospitals in Toronto. You would just need to get copies of records and all imaging. You certainly have the right to choose who you are comfortable with.

mahsa, if you are not comfortable where you are scheduled to go, you have to accept there may be a delay, AND you must be your own advocate. Ask your primary care physician (your GP) to refer you to Princess Margaret or to Sunnybrook or to the Regional Cancer center. Be firm. I had the same concerns, my GP asked ME where I wanted to go but i said Princess Margaret because I didn't know where to go. I was delayed 3 weeks until it was sorted out and I was sent to Credit Valley Hosp. my Regional cancer centre. If they say no to PM then ask for the regional cancer center (your regional cancer center is Southlake in NewMarket) you might have better results asking for that. At the end of the day, if someone tries to tell you you have to go to McKenzie, then insist on a different physician. Just because she is assigned to you doesn't mean she's right for you.

    Hi Molliefish,

Thank you for your advise. My tumor is 1 cm in the left breast. I saw your history that you did the Lumpectomy. I am worry about the shape of my breast after surgery. Does your breast's shape has changed after the surgery?

    Hi masha,

Dr. Sara Ortega did my BMX in April of this year and you couldn't ask for a better surgeon. Like you, I initially googled her and was looking for reviews but found none. My family doctor, recommended her and since I have complete confidence in him, I stayed with Dr. Ortega. I am so glad I did. She is someone who completely cares about her patients. For example, on the day of surgery, she held my hand until I was put to sleep. She listened to every concern I had with complete patience, never made me feel like she was rushing out the door to see the next patient. Early the morning of surgery, she came to see me while I was waiting to ensure that I was ok.

After surgery, her care for me was spectacular. She is a very skilled surgeon who has done a fellowship in breast surgery, there aren't many surgeons who have done a breast fellowship. A good friend of mine also had a BMX before me and when we look at each others' scars, we realize who had the best surgeon, me. My scars are absolutely symmetrical and her suturing was fantastic, she did a beautiful job. Since I've been discharged from the hospital, if I had any questions, I have called her office and had an answer usually immediately and certainly within 30 minutes. I was never kept waiting to see her either at the Breast Health Clinic in the hospital or at her office. She is exceptionally prompt and makes sure her patients are well-taken care of. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ortega. I wouldn't hesitate to use her as my surgeon if I ever needed to. In fact, I've recommended her to my daughter who also needs breast surgery, thankfully for a totally different reason.

I can highly recommend the Stronach Cancer Centre in Newmarket (Southlake Hospital) if you wish to look at another option rather than going to Sunnybrook or Princess Margaret. You may also be able to keep your family Dr as part of your team if you go to Southlake. Keep in mind that driving downtown is a headache while driving north to Southlake would be much easier. The Cancer Centre is wonderful and the oncologists there are very knowledgeable, in fact, they saved my life by recognizing a rare side effect that would have killed me within days.

Masha, don't hesitate to contact me (either here or send me a private message, pm, if you have any questions.

I am a patient of Dr Holloway at Sunnybrook. I am very familiar with all Toronto and area hospitals due to my job and would only go to Sunnybrook. I could not have asked for a better surgeon, but I am not familiar with Dr Ortega and I don't know what it was about her that made you feel 'off', but Dr. Holloway is a very straight-forward, no nonsense surgeon who barely gives in an inch in trying to make you feel 'emotionally' better (which is the type of doctor I prefer) unless she is abundantly clear that she is 100% correct in her statements. So if what put you off with the other doctor was personality, don't let that make your judgement call. That probably didn't help,... but it all sounded better in my head.
