Scrapbooking
Has anyone done any pages dealing with their breast cancer? If so, how did you approach it?
Also, if you do scrapbook, I would love if you share thoughts and ideas about pages. I am fairly new at this but really getting into it!

Hi LuAnn...I love to scrapbook. I have one started with my daughters pictures (she' 25) and one started with my son's pictures (he's 7). I have all my daughters wedding photos and all the papers, embellishments, etc that I need to get that scapbook started but haven't yet. I actually haven't done anything since my dx last December but intend to buckle down and start again. I am so far behind, it was just hard to see all the "before bc" pictures...all the pictures from the women I was. I haven't done any breast cancer pages and I am not sure that I ever will. Just me...would rather leave it behind and forget it...bury my head in the sand!
WalMart has some pretty good supplies that are fairly inexpensive as does AC Moore and Michaels if they are in your area.
Have fun...it's a great stress reliever.

Hi LuAnn,
I LOVE scrapbooking. I've been doing it for about 8 years now. I am currently going through radaition and was lurking on your site and the scrapbooking topic jumped out at me.
My sons are 23 to 30, so I didn't start this when they were born. I picked my favorite photos of each year of their life from birth thrugh college to use in their books. Trying to use all the photos is just overwhelming.
I now have 3 grandchildren. Before each one was born I made an ABC album for them. I have a two page spread for each letter of the alphabet. I decorated the pages (A-astronaut, B-balloons, C-clowns) and left plenty of room to add photos through the years. For example on my grandaughters C page I have photos of her on Christmas, with cousins, with a clown, and on a carousel. Again I include only my favotire photos in this album. Doing a chronlogical album for each one would have ended up with quite a few albums for each one of them. This way each one will have one album.
I also do a yearly album that includes everything in my life; family, friends, work, events.
Breast cancer page? Yes I am going to include that in this year's album. I'm not quite sure how I am going to do it yet. My albums are the story of my famly's lives, and breast cancer has definately been a big part of my life this year. I've thought about using a photo of myself (since I take almost all of the photos, I'm not in my scrapbooks much), one of the get well cards that a dear friend sent to me, including a pink ribbon somehow, and journaling my story. Some of this information could be important to my grandaughters some day.
Hope this helps.

I'm bumping this up for some others. I do stamping but haven't gotten into scrapbooking. May be my next project!
I am hoping one of my bc friends will join in. She is doing scrapbooking now. I told her about it so we'll see... -
Yes!
First...I started with my boys were born and do one every year. Together. I do have a special one for Ethan, (nephew/son).
Other theme books?
Thanksgiving,
Annual Vacation
Jazzercise
Wedding
I did do one on cancer...for a while. But I really didn't like it. Scrapping brings me joy. I just wanted a history of all who were wonderful to me.
I also did one on me. A few pictures...likes/dislikes/who I am now. that was the hardest one to do.

I love to do small books about a particular theme. I have one called "Three", that is all pictures of my son at age 3 and learning to skate, riding his tricycle, things like that. I also do small vacation books. Even my cat has her own book! Haven't done anything about bc experience. I tried, but I just couldn't get anywhere. I do like stamping combined with scrapbooking.

I haven't put pictures in an album for years, never mind "scrap booking". All my pics stay in the envelope they come in. It is my goal to one day get organized. I did start albums for each of my kids now 20, 17 and 8 but I haven't done anything with the two big kids since before the 8 year old was born. My youngest has a couple albums but I stopped that when she was little. Just not enough time. I also get a journal for each one, but that lasted only a couple years each. I started a journey for my BC journey, but it is hard to write in it on a regular basis anymore. I think sometimes I just don't want to "go there". I have thought about making an album with all my BC pictures - but the way the others have gone, who knows if it will ever get done. Not sure why I want to do it, but maybe when I am old, I will be able to laugh at the pictures (or cry). Creative I'm not, so mine would just be in a good ole store bought album. I envy all you creative ladies - my hobby is baking cookies and that is where my creativity ends!!!

Hi ladies-i am in in the october chemo board
i am NOT a scrap booker-BUT w my diagnosis i right away decided i wanted to do document my cancer "journey" , if you will. so right away i started taking photos, one in front of "Dana Farber Cancer Institue" in boston where i went for my 2nd opinion, and one at ea chemo treatment...i thinks its kinda weird...but it feel like what i need to do and right for me. since i am not a scapbooker at all i am finding my way and asking people. i found a website that had pretty breast cancer paper, ribbons and inspirational words. i just got the scrapbook and am working on what i want on each page-
i feel i want to learn as much as i can from this bizarre journey...and for some reason this idea works for me. maybe i dont want to ever forget some of the feelings-the deep dark ones and the wonderful ones...i think that is part of it.
if anyone has any ideas let me know...my friends know i never go anywhere w/o my camera...never know when a moment will come...
happy thanksgiving to all...

LuAnne,
Ravdeb was the one talking about a friend that does scrapbooking, thats me....and I iuse do do it, actualluy a I did a book for myh son, its great, he is 24 almost 25 amd every so often I see him browsing through it, he loves it...I kind of organize it.as the first page was just me, as I was standing sideways BIG and pregant and I wrote in story book handwrigng about "once upon a time" etc etc and yes my pic at bottom and lots of cute stickers of baby laundery baskets with clotes and bunnies and a clothes line and jsut cut things..think next page was him at the cute stage of 3 months and better and I used tons of acid free paper, amd did some in circles for the background then did one a tad bigger of other color and antoehr etc and the pic was also cut in circle and it was centerized ....One page as days and months went by and I am talanted and started making my own die cuts 2 huge big ones for each page and the outside of these circles I cut the outside I did in ziggy zaggy sissors that were the tread of the wheels one on each page and at top, I had stick em letters I wrote "I USE WHEELS ONLY", there were pics of him in his walker, and some one a scooter, anything with wheels, yes even one when he was NOT even w on a Suzukki Jr w/traiting wheels out in the hills riding with his helmet.......
Now Im trying when I can and feel like it to keep me from some pain an bordom.
Plus doing this "just in case" I dont make it, that my husband will have some good stuf I made it of alot of "us " pictures...
I had pages for whatever occasion I wanted, even when he got bigger and was into dirtbiking we were always there and had a couple shots of him starting up a mountain and his buddy luke who sat on His bike and myson Jumping over him...LOL yep he wanted me to me the one he jumped over but nada nada...
there is so much to do with these..his book was a 11x8 inch book..
The one IM working on now is 12 x12 for by husband...it was suppose to be for our 10th anniissary on Nov 2nd but Ididnt make it, too tired..but my card table sets up in the living room with my paper cuttter etc....
I even found some background paper of white with pinik ribbons on it and wanted it for all my
BC sisters I lvoe so miuch and they have sent me pic's of them selfs....one in particular is so good at scrapping she made me quite a few of all sorts of pinkies ribbons and I am going to write all who pictures I have and type their "name " then their real name and where theirfrom and some words about them.. oh Ive go so many so far...just wish I had the ambition to go in ther and work.....I have to keep my leg up due to cancer and we had an OLD oregon that only used it as a dust collector, well a church needed one, so we donated it to them except the bench as the bench holds the fiscar cutter so perfect anda the piceces that are not just tiny scraps go in there..
Also I have 5/7 envelops filled with pic's and labled themj of what sheets they are going on....
I love wowrking on it, and I also found an old rubber maid containter that "HAD" a lid but it aabroke off and I have regualar envelopes that I opened from bak and wrote which sickers etc match "kind of"...so Im sorganized, even with all the tapes and I have zillions of markers WAY too many an oneof thoserubermaid huge boxs that belong under a bed but never do, and I keep my acid free paper in that 2 stacks, and lots of good cool boxes that have toher things I use for scrapbooking....
I did find out LONG ago as I started with creative memeories and wasnt too keen on them, as I dont like followin directions! LOL like to do it MY way.....so IM all set up and I have a good piece of glass that I cut my circles with so it wont ruin my card table...and its by a window, jsut wish I can get started again as sitting in achair like a cardtable chair really get to me and ,uy legs an back...and I fond some of those things u put in desk for pencils and etc for otehr little things...and some cut boxes for ALL my tapes, cute coffee cups fro my writers, and some forsome tools I use, plus rullers an those moon shaped things, so everything isorganized...and I have a sister and friends whoknow I do this and are always sending me "stuf " that I can use..maybe not now, but Iwill soon enough...
Oh my evelopes bawards I even have ones for die cuts, some say "{picnics", out doors. Bday, lettering, and Ive pickedup some small pamphlets of cute writingstht you putonyour paper and then use popsicles sticks to rub thwriting on the pages....annd Myu sis brought in an amost 2 inch pad of paper with so many backgrounds for eachpage...its awasome, plusI have my plain colored paper in other area, an of course I keep a plastic grocery st0re bag tapped to side of table to catch my litter so I dont make too big of list..
pleae pm me if wish, im not on here too often, but would loe to help u if i can.
hugs

Last year I did scrapbooks for all of my kids and husband too. They loved them. The thought of getting them into some organized fashion was overwhelming as they were just thrown into a box. I ended up doing my pages differently.......a few with family, a few with cousins, a few with sports, some of friends etc....that way I didn't have to worry about ages and it was fun to see them through the years enjoying all of those things. It was the most fun project I ever did. The kids have asked me to continue their books.......and they are 25,23, and 16. It was well worth the time.

karen1956,
Have you ever thought of trying digital scapbooking? There are quite a few digital scrapbooking software available that are very user friendly. They come with predesigned templates so all you have to do is add you own personal photos and text or you can start totally from scratch, either way it's very easy. Two program are 'Art Explosion SCRAPBOOK FACTORY DELUXE' and 'Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer Platinum v.3'
This is a page I did using the Art Explosion SCRAPBOOK FACTORY DELUXE software. (You do need to have a printer that is photo quality and also use good quality photo paper.) -
Another option is to work with just a sheet of paper and add pictures and grafics like this one
-
For Christmas, my son gave me Scrapbook Factory Deluxe software..has anyone used this??
-
I have the Scrapbook Factory Deluxe software...it's fun and easy to use. I made a bunch of fun pages for my daughter and SIL after they were married using the newspaper headline page...I put their pictures on the "front page" and added text...they got a huge kick out of that.
It really is easy to use...have fun. -
SoCalLisa,
Scrapbook Factory Deluxe is one of the programs I use and I agree with 'newvicki', it's fun and easy to use.
The scrapbook page I posted 'I Race For My Grandma' was made using that program.
Here's a newspaper front page I made using Scrapbook Factory Deluxe for my sister's 60th birthday. I printed several of them, taped them togeter and used it as wrapping paper for her gift. (I blacked out her last name before I posted it here.) -
that is wonderful..you are very creative!!
I have tried one page and get error message when I try to put in photo..just my luck.. -
What does the error message say?
-
Hi Kats..it says
"An error occured displaying the Insert Graphic Dialog Box. Please save unsaved documents and close the application and try again"
I keep trying again to no avail...would appreciate any help!!!
Lisa -
Found this on their website;
Quote:
An error occurred displaying the insert graphics dialog box
This is typically due to the My Documents icon missing from the Desktop. Verify that the icon is there. Please make sure that it is the actual icon and not a short-cut to the My Documents folder. If it is a short-cut, it will show a small arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of the graphic.
If the My Documents icon is missing, please perform the following to add it back to the Desktop:
1. Right-click a blank area of your Desktop.
2. Select the Properties option from the pop-up menu.
3. On the Display Properties window, click the Desktop tab.
4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
5. Place a check mark in the My Documents check box.
6. Click the OK button for each screen to exit.
If that does not resolve the issue, please try the following:
1. Right-click a blank area of your Desktop.
2. Select the New -> Folder option from the pop-up menu. A new folder will appear with the name "New Folder".
3. Either change the name to the folder, or click anywhere on the Desktop to leave it.
4. Drag every icon on the Desktop into that folder, excluding My Computer, My Documents, My Network Place and Recycle Bin. Please note that you may not have all four of these icons on the Desktop.
Note: Some icons may not move to the folder. If they cannot be moved and you are still having the issue, you may need to remove them from the Desktop. You will need to check the program's documentation on how to remove it.
If that resolves your issue, one of the icons that were dragged into that folder has something on the properties that is causing a conflict with the program. To determine which has the conflict, drag a few icons out of the folder to the Desktop and test. Continue to do this until you have narrowed it down to the conflicting icon. From that point, you will simply need to keep that icon off the Desktop.

Hi there. I started scrapbooking when Eric was Bar Mitzvah. We had a professional photgrapher and an album. We also put disposable cameras on all the tables. I took them and made pages up and put them in with the good pics. The photographers pics were in a book that is loose leaf style. I took the ones I made and inserted in the protective sleeves and added them to the others. There were so many great candids!
I also use the Scrapbooking program from American Greetings. That works well too. -
hi, guys. i scrapbook, too, tho i don't use the software.
i do a book a year for each of my daughters and then a family book. i've done one for my DH's childhood, his college, and so on.
i'm doing one for BC, too. my daughters are young, and i want to keep a record of this challenging time in our lives, as they may not remember once my hair grows back.... -
I am glad I ran into this scrapbooking thread. I am a big time scrapbooker (okay most of the time I am a scrapbook collector) and have been doing it for 8.5 years. I have completed several albums all varied.
I am currently working on one of my bc journey. I know people think I am strange when I whip out my camera to take pics.
Nice meeting other scrapbookers. -
I just bought some papers with the pink ribbon theme. Not sure how I plan to use them yet but I'm sure I will I haven't had the time to work on my scrapbooking too much lately but am hoping I will get back to it soon.
LuAnn -
I am not the biggest scrapbooker in the world. My ds had his Bar Mitzvah last August. We put out the disposable cameras on the tables and I put them in sleeves with papers and decorations describing the actions on the pics. It really added so much to the professional album!
I use a lot of scrapbooking materials for making cards.
