Liver enzymes elevated

I finished chemo March 2016 and then I finished radiation last Monday. I had a check up with my oncologist on Thursday. He said everything looked great and he started me on the Tamoxifen. Then today I got a call that my blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes and "some other concerns". I couldn't ask a bunch of questions because I was in the middle of a college tour with my daughter and I was really caught off guard. Anyway, they want me to come in and redo the blood work and I think they said something else. I'm freaking out and I don't want to tell my family until I can talk to the dr. I'm going in tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

I had elevated liver enzymes found during my annual physical. My doc said it could be side effect of Tamoxifen. She had me come back a month later to retest, and all was back to normal. I'm not a big drinker, but during that month time I drank absolutely no alcohol. Now I try to limit myself to 3 drinks per week. I hope that your elevated liver enzymes turn out to be nothing too

I, too, have elevated liver enzymes, but I'm nauseous and have localised pain. Do you have any symptoms?

I've had elevated enzymes too for awhile, but mine turned out to be fatty liver. Those calls are always nerve wracking....but it doesn't mean the worse necessarily. Keep us posted ((hugs))

I knew I had non-alcoholic-fatty-liver-disease but those numbers we were used to. Preparing for the worst, but expecting the best!

My nausea had pretty much went away and I have no pain. I did more blood work yesterday and they just said my AST and ALT levels are still elevated. My dr wants me to have an ultrasound. Hopefully they will be able to schedule it tomorrow. I hate waiting! It's hard to accept this new way of life where you are constantly worrying about your next test results.

I'm right there with you. I thought all this cancer crap was behind me as everyone said I had a great outcome. I had my herceptin infusion last week and when I go home they called and said my enzymes were elevated and I needed a CT scan. Well I did that this morning so I'll let you all know tomorrow what the outcome is. Last week I had a bone scan because of lower back pain that is just at night and first thing upon waking up in the morning. The oncologist said he would be shocked if it was cancer related. Thank goodness the bone scan just showed signs of my crappy discs. All I can think about is him saying it would shock him about my bones, but yet my liver is a different story? I really hate waiting. I've never had pain where I guess my liver is until yesterday after I drank the contrast stuff. Good luck to everyone!

Stephanie--was wondering it you had your ultrasound yet. Met with my oncologist today and all is well with me. Another fatty liver here. So have hope. My doc says elevated ast and alt are actually pretty common, but with our history they just want to be sure.

Wow, fidget, you gave me hope!!!! Not sure when I'll get the call that the results are in, but I'm hoping mine is still just a fatty liver.

I couldn't get the ultrasound scheduled until Saturday morning. They could have done it tomorrow morning, but I am scheduled to tour a college with my daughter and I've already rescheduled that visit twice because of other unexpected treatments. So I will hopefully know something on Monday. Your post does make me feel better. I guess I wouldn't have been so worried if my dr would have said it was ok to go ahead and remove my port, but the nurse told me he said we should wait and see how the ultrasound goes. I guess I am really going to have to work on being patient

    Hello everyone.

Well, I was just in the ER Saturday for really bad pain in upper right abdomen. It had been going on since the evening before and was constant and severe. At ER, they found my liver enzymes which have been elevated since chemo had jumped quite a bit from last month. I already know I have Hepatic Steatosis (Fatty liver). Found this after chemo. Prior to chemo, was normal. Do not drink. But, until now, the levels were in the 40's and 50's. Now, 144 and 171. Just in past month. Nothing in diet has changed except my new hormone blocker, Femara. I was on Tamoxifen for a while, had issues. Was on Arimidex, had issues. This med seemed to be working until this. They feel it would be really rare if it is the med. I have read that gall bladder issues and gall stones can raise your liver enzymes. Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thank you all.

    Dawn
