I am in the single digits now!
Hi everyone!
Hope everyone is doing and feeling well and enjoying the summer.. Today was a milestone.. I am now down to the single digits.. I only have 9 treatments left!
My RO started the boost treatments last week and when they are finished ( 7 all together) he will go back to radiating the whole breast Reason why he is doing the boost now is because he wanted to give the whole breast a little break. He knows that I will be leaving on vacation on July 30 and I am scheduled to finish July 29 ( talk about a fast getaway) By doing the boosts now he is hoping that I will finish on time not having to take break.. My skin is holding up well.. I have been using Calendula salve and just received a prescription for silver dine cream.
It has been a long 5 months since my diagnosis in February.. I want to thank everyone for their support. encouragement and advice.. Although I have never met you, my connection here has been a godsend.
God Bless each and everyone of you.... Here's to continued good health...

Congratulations, Diane! That's truly something to celebrate - and I remember that feeling well. A year ago I was in the middle of my 35 rounds and it felt as though it would never end. The day I hit the single digits felt almost unreal.
I hope all goes smoothly with the remainder of your treatment and that you'll soon be n your way on a well- deserved vacation. Take care! -
Mazel tov, Diane! Hope you’re going somewhere fun and exciting on vacation!

I am very happy you are in the single digits. I am on #16 today. I saw my RO yesterday and he seemed a little concerned. The area that is being radiated for the lymph gland is very red, sore and rough to the touch. It is also on my back where it exits. He said bit will get worse before it gets better.
I have a follow up again Friday.
He says that there is not much they can do.
He says I am doing everything right, but its getting harder to get in the car and know its getting worse by the day.
I have tried there expensive cream in samples, miiaderm, alocane which does work, aloe, and aguaphor.
Just needing a little reasurrance to keep going.
Thanks Christine

Hi, Christine - I know what you mean about it getting harder to get in the car and show up each day; that's one of the tough things about RT. Mondays were always hard for me - I just did not want to have to go back there after the weekends.
. So here's a gentle cyber-hug and the assurance that yes, you will finish and it will heal up.
You might ask your RO about silva dene. I didn't need to use it but numerous women on this board got a lot of relief from it. You could also ask about doing what Diane's RO did - doing your boosts now to give the axilla a break, then going back and finishing up with your regular treatment. You might also find some relief by putting a cool (not icy) pack under your arm for a while after each treatment and maybe for a while in the evening.
I wish I could offer more - I can hear how painful this is and it is really hard to hear that it will get worse before it improves. Hang in there, Christine. -
Christine,
Sorry to hear how much you are suffering from the radiation.. I have been lucky that my skin has held up very well. I use calendula salve which I think is a godsend and my RO has told all his patients about the particular brand I use since it has worked wonders. He also gave me a prescription for silver dine cream but truthfully I like the calendula better.
Also maybe ask if you can switch to the boosts to give the whole breast a rest and then go back to whole breast radiation.. You will never know unless you ask....
If you want more info about the cream I use or if you have any other questions feel free to private message me..
