Travel

Options

I was recently diagnosed with IDC and am undergoing my first chemo treatment (Perjeta, herceptin, texotere and carboplatin) as I type. Second treatment is scheduled for Aug 5 - the day we planned to take the family on vacation to New England (12 hour by car, 90 minutes by plane). Realize we may need to postpone a day or two. Does anyone have any advice about travel? We'll be staying in a private home which should make things easier. But thoughts on flying vs driving? Carrying injections on a plane? Any advice would be helpful!! Thanks!!

Personally, I would not travel during chemo. Your immune system is compromised, if you get an infection of some sort, you'll need to be seen by a doctor immediately. iMHO I'd rather be treated at the hospital where my docs are and that have all my medical and treatment information than a hospital far from home. When I was in treatment I developed an infection and had to spend the night in the ER trying to figure out what it was. There was a possibility that I'd have had to stay for a few days, but luckily that didn't happen.
