New and waiting for a biopsy
H everyone. I'm 32 with 3 young children. Ive been reading the forums here for the last week and a bit since I found a lump in my right breast. It certainly seems to be a great source of information and support. I saw a Doctor the day after I felt the lump and she confirmed she could also feel it. I waited a week then to have an ultrasound (longest week of my life) and they decided not to do a mammogram due to my age and didn't think it would give them any extra information. Basically they told me on the day of the mammogram that there was nothing suspicious but the next day the Doctor rang and informed me that they have suggested either follow up ultrasound in 6 months to check the lump is stable or to have an ultrasound guided biopsy. My Doctor advised that she personally would have the biopsy for peace of mind and that was my thinking also so I'll be having that done on Monday.
Official ultrasound report says the lump is an ovoid, well circumscribed, hypoechoic solid lesion at the anterior breast margin. It measures 9x9x3mm. Features are most likely a fibroadenoma. The report does not indicate a BiRad rating.
I understand this is pretty positive and compared with my age, I'm very hopeful that it will be benign but I will be really happy to have the biopsy done and results back for peace of mind. I should also mention that I'm located in Australia and thankfully insurance isn't an issue but I'm not sure if there are any other differences to testing etc.
Not sure what to expect with the biopsy (can I drive straight afterwards?) and if it is just a fibroadenoma, is it something that still needs to be monitored?

Shilto02, very glad you found this forum. Hoping of course that the results of your biopsy are benign. It sounds like you have a great doctor....she sees the value of peace of mind for you! I think you will be fine to drive after your biopsy, there are a few different types they can do, did she happen to say which procedure she will be using? It does sting, but not untolerable. More irritating than anything! Ask about the monitoring if it is fibro...I think maybe yes, but I am curious what others say. Please do pop in and update us...and looking forward to hearing what you learn.

Thanks for your replies. Yes my Doctor is amazing. I'm very thankful to have her. I had thought that given my age, I might be brushed off but she was fantastic. I had my biopsy today so now I wait. The procedure itself went pretty well. The nurse and radiographer that I had were also fantastic. It's a bit painful now but nothing too bad. I'm trying to be logical. I know the odds are in my favour but I will be relieved to get the results back for confirmation.

So glad you are doing good, hopefully the results will come soon, Try to put it on the back burner....hard to do, but your 3 kids can probably distract you! Hang in there.

It's taken me awhile to get back in here and give an update with my results. Thankfully it came back benign. I only spoke to a nurse over the phone who gave me the results. She said benign breast tissue? She also said that the results say I have a cystically dilated duct but she didn't know what that was only that my Doctor hadn't mentioned needing to see me again unless I have questions. I'm thankful the results are benign but I'm wondering what a cystically dilated duct is? Anyways I'll probably make a follow up appointment with my Doctor just to ask some questions about it and whether it needs any follow up.
I thank everyone here in this community and wish everyone the best on their journey whether it involves breastcancer or other lumps etc. It's a difficult time and this community is just so valuable for its support.
