High Platelet Count
I have got super high platelet count. My red count etc. is fine. Can this be indicative of mets? Has anyone else gotten these results on their blood tests?

Becky , I don't want to scare you but please ensure that your doctors rule out Lymphoma (blood cancer) . When I was diagnosed with BC I hit the lottery and was also diagnosed with Lymphoma at the same time . High platelet count was was of the factors . Also there is also a condition where nothing is wrong but your body just manufactures additional platelets . I hope that this is the case for you . I am still above ground even living with both cancers . Try not to worry but for sure ask your MO for additional detail/tests .

I moved my Oncologist appointment up from August 12th to the 12th of this month. I am very worried about blood cancer. Lymphoma. Leukemia. BC in my bones/marrow.

SO glad you were able to move your appointment up . Please let me know if I can help in anyway . Thinking good thoughts for you !

My mom had essential thrombocythemia which might be the non-lymphoma disease Flaranch1 referred to. She described it as too many platelets that didn't function properly. She was monitored and put on medication to lower her platelets whenever she tested high and also in advance of any surgery. She lived to be 91 and died of something else, and I don''t know if this condition is considered rare, but her nextdoor neighbor in her senior citizens apt house had the same condition and lived to an even older age. So if your high platelets is indeed chronic and not some freaky temporary thing, if thrombocythemia is your diagnosis - it is something that is possible to live MANY years with!

Thanks Ladies for your responses. I see the Oncologist on Tuesday.

Wishing you well and let us know the outcome . I should tell you your Mo will likely run more tests . Mine did another round of genetic blood tests , they did not take as long to receive the results as the oncotype test but they did take a few weeks . Sorry don't mean to cause you more stress, I just like to tell people the things I wish someone would have told me . Also as much family history as you can provide is helpful (unfortunately my family was not able to provide me with much) .

The Oncologist told me that my platelet count was high but not worrisome high. She was really angry I stopped my antidepressants. I stopped the Effexor because the psychiatrist where I go to therapy quit. I since have gotten Effexor RX from my GP. The Oncologist feels that I ruminate and get terrified of cancer reccuring. She reminded me my chest MRI and Mammogram was spotless. That I am up on my two year NED. I have since had more blood tests (my choice) by a Dr. That has helped another BC NED friend tremendously. I think that Effexor is what Oncologists rely on to keep BC patients glued.
