Post chemo ataxia & Arimidex

I've been on Arimidex for 18 months. In spite of exercising regularly-walking and aquafit, I continue to have a problem  with what my family physician is calling "post chemo ataxia"....one oncologist I've seen said it's related to the Arimidex which is removing the estrogen from my muscles....another has said he has never heard of such a reaction...all that to say the result for me is loss of balance and  the feeling that I'm hauling a great load when mobile.  I use a cane or urban walking sticks for balance...anyone else have the muscle weakness side effect?

    Breast Cancer Therapy Heightens Fall Risk-I just read this article in the June Research News & the symptoms could be mine!   I can't believe there are others experiencing the same thing following Adriamycin as part of the chemo therapy I received.  The medical oncologist always looks like he doesn't believe me when I mention my symptoms which started 2 weeks into the administration of Adriamycin which ended at the end of August 2008.  He'll be getting acopy of htis article pronto!!

    Since September 2008 I've been on Arimidex. Now I'll be watching for something that will mitigate the symptoms.  I've been persrcibed Lyrica for the neuropathy and need a cane, walking sticks or a person for support when walking. 

    I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else experiencing this loss of balance resulting from chemotherapy.

    Hello I'm a very late reply. I am wondering if you were still experiencing these symptoms? I was diagnosed with ataxia a few years after my chemotherapy treatment different drugs but I have not spoken with other's who have experienced this all though they now say it's a side effect.

    Well, this is a common problem with female hormonal suppressors. Other drugs with similar action - http://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/drugs/tamoxifencitrate - have similar side effects. I guess it can be addressed by prescribing more precisely calibrated dose. And those side effects are still usually more benign than from drugs like toremifene - https://rxed.eu/en/f/Fareston/ I hope you will be OK!

    Perhaps some kind of physiotherapy may be of help too.
