Gallows/Black Humor

That's got to be pretty dark, jobur. Too dark to read. LOL
-
I watch what I say around my friends because, like you, when i let it rip, it makes them all squirm and there's uncomfortable silence. Their normal isn't our normal and they dont "get it" I still think of the gallows humor zingers, but I bite my tongue. Things that would strike me as funny comes off as mood smashers for people who aren't stage 4

It has been a bit for this thread, so here goes! I live in a condo complex, and ran into one of my neighbors ( barely an acquaintance). We discussed the new parking rules, if a tenant parks in a visitor space we can get a $100 ticket . My response " I have stage 4 cancer, lol, they can't scare me" She bends over to my chest and yells "get out of there you nasty cancer cells!"
Really -you don't know me!

Bumping up the thread.....

Through the "magic" of patient portals as well as interaction in my MDs' offices, I've seen some really odd, sometimes hopelessly unhelpful office visit notes, assessment tools and the like in my electronic health record. Here's a link to ZDoggMD's "EHR State of Mind":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB_tSFJsjsw (Yes, ZDogg is a real, live MD!)

Surfdreams, that picture is funny! I am still laughing.
Brendatrue, ZDoggMD's Youtube video is quite good quality. Looks professional. I went to his website and it says he is available for Bar Mitzvahs . . . . Maybe he offers a combo deal if a patient uses him for medical services and for party entertainment!

brendatrue - love it just shared on my fb page!

ZDoggMD videos crack me up. I love watch them. The info is actually very accurate and have helped me with a few tests (like the sepsis video).
I have a twisted sense of humor and I often offend others with it. I tell them too bad, I am the one with cancer, they have to deal with me.
-
love this. Thank you made my morning

Brenda,
Thanks for the ZDoggMD link! I watched several songs on YouTube. "Ebola" is my fave so far.

I came across this post when searching for insurance info. I love "catastrophic longevity" (my new goal) and I love this post!
Black humor is one of my coping methods. My mom and I were initially diagnosed within three weeks of each other and the situation was just so friggin' ridiculous, we had to make fun of it. A family friend termed it "oncoparty in the _______ family."
We also liked naming tumors. My tumor was "Marv" and mom's was "Harry" from Home Alon. Marv, because he was tall and loud and Harry because he was short and ugly.
Years later, my mom pointed out to me that my large and slow growing brain tumors were fat and lazy. I named them Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin (the Simpsons and Family Guy).
Before my mets diagnosis, whenever I worried about symptoms, my husband would tell me it was all in my head. After my brain mets were diagnosed, I would say "babe, you were right...it was all in my head after all!"
Oh and since I want to donate my body to research, I identify strongly with this song:
"Please don't bury me down in the cold, cold ground/I'd rather have them chop me up and pass me all around..."
And if I end up with a headstone, this is what I want it to say:
Cheers and inappropriate laughter to all

BadatUserNames,
Love it! and the photos. Told my friends this week that I want "Burning Ring of Fire" played at my funeral. The Catholic church will never allow in the church, but maybe at the cemetery. In my" I have stage 4 " mode, I have made and continue to make some decisions that may leave me "going down in a burning ring of fire" Not hurting anyone ,but living my life on my terms
-
Bad, love the John Prine song...the headstone says it all.
Nel, "living life on my terms".......you go girl, I feel like I'm still pretending, working on it.
-
I love The John Prine song and would like to share it on facebook, but I think it would horrIfy my family.
