my mother has been diagnosed with grade 3 IDC, 3 cm tumor, HER2+, ER+/PR-.

She has just finished her chemotherapy 16 round after which she is scheduled for lumptectomy surgery and then radiation. This treatment schedule was decided before hand but apparently doctors proposed my mom to have herceptin for over a year. Since herceptin is very expensive and Due to lack of funds and no medical insurance we cant afford herceptin. is there any survior there with her+ and no targeted theraphy. Please reply soon as its very deploring situation for our family.

neelshah, I don't know where you are and what resources you have available, but I would suggest contacting a Nurse Navigator, social worker at your medical facility, or the American Cancer Society to see what is available. Pls exhaust all of her options before she declines the therapy. I had a very high ins deductible that spanned 2 yrs, $11k out of pocket, and was able to get a grant for part of my chemo and Neulasta shot. Good luck!

Can you call the drug manufacturer? Often you can receive grants for people who can not afford the medication. Its worth a call. The oncologists should be able to help with these types of requests as well. Good luck.

Please inquire about possible "Patient Assistant Programs" for trastuzumab (HERCEPTIN) that may be available in your country from the drug manufacturer Genentech, Inc. or its parent company, Roche.

Hi Neelshah, are you located in India? Biocon has a generic version of Herceptin available which may be significantly cheaper. Also consider contacting your MLA and/or MP for help in securing a discount from Roche or Biocon. Herceptin is an important drug and has helped improve outcomes for HER2+ women. In particular, since your mother had grade 3 cancer, the risk of recurrence is elevated.
