Hi Guys,

Does anyone know why this doesn't work in a preventative fashion for BRAC positive cancer patients who are not advanced?

FDA Approved for advaced ovarian cancer

Form this Forbes article: Lynparza, First In A New Class Of Cancer Drugs, Is Surprisingly Active In A Wide Range Of Tumors

"Based on new data from several early-phase trials reported at the 2015 annual AACR meeting in Philadelphia, it appears that Lynparza alone can shrink or stabilize various cancers, particularly but not exclusively in patients with inherited BRCA variants. When combined with other treatment – either old-fashioned chemo or novel targeted therapy – the effects (and potential toxicity) of PARP inhibition may be extended to other tumor types, and be more powerful."

I know there was a trial going for brca and parp inhibitors...but I can't seem to find it now. It wasn't offered to me.

I like this approach. When you're genetically predisposed to something, you feel as if there's no hope, your fate has been cast and there's nothing you can do to change it. Not just my fate, but the fates of my loved ones. That has been one of the most horrible thoughts of my cancer experience. That those beautiful kids will have to endure this one day.

Repairing the DNA gives me hope for all the beautiful youngsters coming up behind me. All the nieces and nephews and grands. I LOVE this approach to finding a cure. Even if it's too late for me, it's not too late for the fam.

Hugs to you cb. I feel the same way about my children. I had no idea I could possibly be carrying the mutation, I'm the first one in my family with breast cancer and was diagnosed after all three of my children were born. I feel so awful that I may have passed this on. Since they are so little, however, I am hopeful that things will be different by the time it would matter.

    Thanks Cajunqueen,

    Hugs to you too.

This is currently FDA approved and available, you might talk to your oncologist about it. It's just new and I'm not a chemo fan. I think you take it orally, in conjunction with a certain kind of intravenous chemo. I don't know enough about it yet.

Thanks, I'm going to bring it up with him at the next visit. I am currently taking a year of Afinitor on a clinical trial, so I'm not sure if that would fit in since they are going to monitor me for 9 more years afterward (or "until the cancer comes back") but I'd definitely like to know all of my options. Also glad I kept my port.
