Ruptured breast prosthesis removal QLD Australia

Hello,

My 72 yr old mum had a radical mastectomy 28 yrs ago. The 27 yr old prosthetic breast has ruptured in 2 places & is to be removed.

All original NSW specialists & surgeons have since retired, & she is now living on the Fraser Coast QLD.

We are receiving no guidance by our GP. The closest we have come to advice is from 1 plastic surgeon (not a breast reconstruction specialist) &, as we are very hesitant with his recommended procedure, we are desperate to get another opinion.

All MRI's etc are done & local nurses are recommending we look at travelling to the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane for help.

Does anyone have any experience with silicone implant removal, or recommendations of surgeons in our area of South East QLD?

We are prepared to travel.

I truly appreciate any feedback even of it is not relevant to mum's situation.

Thankyou,

Bubblinky

Hi Bubblinky, I'm from SA so don't know the docs in QLD or where you are but you might try contacting the Cancer Council for some advice or BCNA (Breast Cancer Network Australia). They may be able to point you in the right direction.

My sister in law had her prosthetics removed successfully a couple of years ago but she lives in El Arish and was done in Cairns by a Breast surgeon, not a plastic surgeon. Perhaps that might be another avenue to check into. Do you have a 'local' hospital? They may also be able to steer you in the right direction.

I know your Mum must be very uncomfortable and the silicone leeching into her system not a good thing at all so the sooner you get some advice the better all round. I wish you luck.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy
