Hi

I'm 22 years old, gave birth last year to a baby boy who is now one. I am breastfeeding on one breast and recently found a small round lump on that breast. I went in to my gp she referred me to the breast surgeon and they said that i did not need to be seen by them. I went to see my gp again and she reassured me that it is a fibroidadenoma. have any of you guys been diagnosed with a fibroidadenoma and how was your experience?? Do you have any pain?? does yout breast look different??

    Hi

I've had multiple Fibroadenomas over the years, the first one diagnosed when I was 22. These are benign growths, and are generally harmless. Once definitively diagnosed, a lot of surgeons leave them alone unless they grow and/or start to cause pain/discomfort. If this happens, they'll usually remove them for. Unless they get large or are close to the skin, they usually don't cause changes to the appearance of the breast.

How did your doctor determine that it was a fibroadenoma, was imaging performed?

hi there thanks for your reply
I did not get any ultrasound, biopsy or mammogram done, my GP just felt it and she said it feels like a fibroidadenoma and to go back and see her if lump grows or is painful. Since then I've been worried but I havent gone back to my GP.

I would suggest a second opinion - without imaging or biopsy there is no way to definitely diagnose what a lump is.

It more than likely is a Fibroadenoma or a cyst (they feel similar), but this can't be diagnosed by feel alone. can you ask for a mammogram and/or ultrasound since you can feel the lump

I would suggest requesting an ultrasound. Fibroadenomas are benign breast lumps that can be left alone.

I had a fibroadenoma 5 yrs ago (age40) had mammogram and ultrasound and definitely diagnosed after a core needle biopsy. It was left alone until this year (I have yearly mammograms) where it more than doubled in size and removed at the beginning of June.

    Good luck
