July 2016 Surgeries

Molly, it was an insurance issue the first 3 months. I've just been doing to much wondering today and it got the better of me. Waiting for the path report after surgery makes sense now too... I'm a bit brain dead after all the yard work yesterday! The past month of waiting was due to a personal matter my BS had to take care of out of town so not her fault. My DH just said that I wanted to pick on someone and she was it. lol
The other BS that was covering for her told me my breast cancer was just itty bitty about the size of your little finger tip! I told him no cancer is itty bitty!!! What if it was your wife?!?! They never want to answer that question do they?
-
I am having a double mastectomy July 13th.
-
((WenchLori)) I am so sorry you have had to worry and wonder so long. I will be praying for you.
LibbyD, I will add you. Are you having reconstruction?
-
Thank you Molly, you are in my prayers as well :-)
-
Thanks
-
Hi,
I'm having a BMX on July 12. I had six months of neoadjuvant chemo and am ready to get this phase over with.
-
Not until later, if at all. My plastic surgeon (who I don't like) said my skin is too thin to do it at the time of mastectomy. I don't understand how it will be thicker later on?
-
BTW, if you are in the Atlanta area, don't go to Dr. Chang (Plastic Surgeon) she doesn't listen to you and made me feel like less of a person.
-
Libby, I am sorry you had a bad experience. I hope you find a new PS that listens.
Lawyer180, I will add you. You have an interesting diagnosis.
-
Wonderful! I'm at my PCP having a tick bite checked out. I just pray he tells me all is well and not sorry but you need to postpone your DBMX!
-
It could be a Lyme desease tick bite but it hasn't been long enough for the rash to show. PCP put me on a strong antibiotic and all will be right in my world. Yay!
-
Phew, that is good WenchLori! You do not need another reason to postpone sx!
-
Molly~ I was soooo freaking out! I was ordered to call my PCP if either of the surgeons felt it was a reason to postpone and he'd make a phone call the BS nor PS want to ever get! I've heard Dr Teague on the phone beforeand I don't ever want to get that phone call myself! I love DR Teague!!
-
Hello everyone,
I completed 6 months of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on June 2nd. I am scheduled for a BMX, ALND, and TE on July 14th. My BS informed me that the sugary will be done at a surgery center and I will go home the same day! I am officially freaking out now! We also don't have a recliner, can't decide if it's worth it to buy one justfor this.
-
WelcomeDbmommy, you can check out renting one from a medical supply store. I have no idea what the charge would be. I'm sure someone here had rented one
-
Welcome Bdmommy,
Congratulations on finishing chemo. Some ladies rent recliners. I bought a new one since my old one was not comfortable anymore. I can't believe you are having outpatient surgery. How do they know your pain will be under control? I assume you will be admitted to the hospital if you're in too much pain. I will add you to the list.

Welcome Eliana9, your procedure is 2 days after mine. I wish you the best and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Welcome Eliana9,
I will add you to the list. You have bilateral surgery coming up. Be sure to read through previous surgery threads for tips on preparing for surgery and recovery. Also read the links at the top of this thread. Hugs.
-
Eliana9, welcome to Breastcancer.org!
We are thinking of all of you with your upcoming surgeries!

I'm a newbie. Just diagnosed with 4 tumors in right breast. ER+ PR+. Her2- (pending fish). MRI shows no lymph involvement. No BRCA or any other cancer genes. Right mastectomy with Diep flap reconstruction scheduled for 7/14/16. Head is swimming trying to prepare myself and the logistics of my house.
I have 3 & 5 year old daughters and wonderful supportive husband, supportive boss and co-workers.
I'm Really curious about how to best set up my home prior to surgery/My bathroom and kitchen especially. Curious about sleep and pillows and pajamas and clothes. How do we handle these?
Thx!

"Hope you find this information helpful. In 2014 and 2015, there were several threads that looked at 1. specific drugs i.e. ketorolac, opioids, propofol, and other NSAIDS, and 2. surgical anesthesia interventions i.e. paravertebral blocks that may affect breast cancer recurrence either local or metastatic. All the information is Evidence Based Research with links. The intent of this post is to provide you with a link to information that you can study and in turn take to your surgeon and anesthesiologist for discussion pre-op, if you feel it has value in your breast cancer care.

A great starting point is this presentation by Dr. Vikas Sukhatme who is academic dean at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard. Published on Jan 21, 2016. Presented by Dr. Vikas P. Sukhatme on December 8, 2015 at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

This is a post and run. I'm 7years out and on with life and other things, I'm not monitoring or mentoring this thread. Particular questions re: the research, please, post on each individual threads . Good luck and blessings -sassy"

Annie-7-14, welcome! You have a big surgery coming up. I would suggest you find the DIEP 2015 thread and read through it. Then read the links at the top of this thread on preparing for surgery. Get button front pajamas and tops. Easy to pull on pants and shoes to wear home from the hospital. Prepare your children to help you with chores and getting their own snacks etc. You may want to rent a recliner if you don't have one. Put your daily needs in easy to reach, small containers. I will add you to the list above. Hugs.
-
I am scheduled for DIEP bi-laterally on July 27. My daughter will be flying in on the 30th and staying for 4 days to help me. I am ready to get out these hard as a rock TE.
After my BMX with lymph nodes taken on both sides in May, I found the button shirts and tops to be the best for after surgery, and lots of pillows, soft and hard ones. I didn't have a recliner but I made do with the pillows. I also stayed on one floor of my house for a few weeks, on;y the laundry is downstairs...it has to wait! I guess the hardest thing was putting away dishes on higher shelves
-
Welcome mom4four,
Wow, bilateral DIEP! You have been through a lot. I am glad your daughter is coming to help. I hear you about TE's. I have had my left one since September. Fortunately my right TE after my upcoming umx will only be in for about 8-10 weeks. I will add you to the list.
-
Hello,
This is my first time posting. I have a lumpectomy scheduled for July 6th. We were going to start chemo last week, but my bs was happy with my recent imaging results and wants to begin with surgery. I haven't gotten my genetic results back yet, but I wouldn't be eligible for a mastectomy now because I am 14 weeks pregnant and that is too long to be under.
Good luck to all of you!
Annie
