Hey, Ruth!!! Prayers for complete healing!!! You will bounce right back, I am sure!!
-
I put on the brace tonight and it did not fit right at all.....it was way to big! I looked at the box which said the size I ordered was for size 5-9.5 shoes. Since I wear size 9, I could not understand this at all. I was getting ready to send it back; with a very bad review on the sizing, when I realized I had put it on upside down!! What a dork! ......perhaps it will work better the other way!
Here is our inspirational quote for the day:
-
Nats, give the water volleyball a chance. It is loads of fun, especially with seniors! ruth, take it easy on the foot. Hope the brace works for you because you are correct, you must go with your Wednesday walkers. But, you could meet up with them at the start, drive over and meet them at the finish .
Claire, you may have already done so but it's sometimes better to not 'unsubscribe' from emails but instead checkmark them and mark them as spam. That way future messages from the sender should go straight into your spam folder. Unsubscribing sometimes just tells the sender that you are a real person.
2 mile walk with visiting sister this morning. Line Dance class early afternoon. Led my Leslie Sansone class in 5-mile walk. A little under 16,000 steps and my hips are feeling every one of them.
Night sculpted friends.

Hi all, Been offline for awhile! I have a new dog! She is a rescue and was pregnant! She had 6 puppies. So, 8 days ago, all the puppies had new homes and I took the mama. Named her Molly. It is like having a child, plus my cat, Happy, is having to adjust to having this other creature in the house! My life has changed for sure. Up earlier.....walk to the dog park by 8:00 and again later in the day. The challenge is to keep the cat food up as Molly prefers it! She is adorable, but I am realizing this is a big responsibility.....not as easy as just having a cat! Patoo is going to "petsit" when I am away over 4th of July weekend.
Aside from many walks, I am doing the Walk Away the Pounds classes and am going to try a Classic Rock Workout class I heard about. Also doing water aerobics.
-
Ooo - new dog for mysunshine! How exciting!! Good for you for taking the mama dog - I like adopting adult dogs and cats too. What breed(s) is she? I'd love to see a picture! Ruth - LOL on putting the brace on wrong! I hope it helps stabilize the foot and take some pressure off the heel. Have fun on your walk today! PlanB - congrats on finishing rads!!! Patoo - I get exhausted just reading about everything you're doing. You sure are getting the most out of retirement (she says enviously!).
2.5 mile run early this morning on the golf course. Totals for the run - 2 bunnies and 5 deer. No gamboling fawns, though - just adult deer. But they are lovely to watch - I sure wish I could run and leap as gracefully and effortlessly as they do.
-
Send us a picture of your puppy, sunshine! Those pets definitely add a lot of life to the house!
Today we walked around the grounds of the local hospital. It is on the edge of town and has some nice walking paths as part of the landscaping (and also a great cafeteria). I took an Advil, wore the brace (right side up) and took the inserts out of my shoes so my heel would land differently. That seemed to work pretty good, so I will do the same for Zumba tonight. Next week is shut-down-for-cleaning- week at the YMCA, so I won't have any of my much loved classes to go to, and will try to behave myself better.
-
PlanB-yahoo to the no more rads.
Mysunshine, dogs are good walking buddies for sure. Enjoy.
Ruth, you are dedicated don't forget to rest
I'm reporting yesterday's walk of 30 minutes after work it's getting ready to rain here so I don't think I'll risk getting out this evening
-
Thanks ladies! It does feel good to have that done!
Determined to build back up! Did lower fix workout today!
-
PlanB...congrats on finishing rads!! That is definitely something to celebrate
Ruth...love the pics of your walking group....glad the brace and taking out the insert in your shoe is helping. Walking is my favorite and only form of exercise so I would be lost if I couldn't walk.
Today I cleaned out my drawers in the bathroom cabinet...couldn't believe how much I got rid off...next I cleaned the linen closet...wow, there was stuff in there that I didn't remember I had.....an extra set of new sheets, glass salad bowl and more table clothes than I new I had....when I saw the stuff I remembered buy it and putting it away...it was just so messy...its amazing what you find when you clean out closets etc...the other day I did the spare bedroom closet. Will try to finish a hall storage closet and that will probably be it for the summer!! Have a few large bags of give aways, many sample toiletries.
Before I leave, I need to take a couple online classes to renew my national certification...I have more than enough credits, but NASP for the NCSP wants 10 hours to be from NASP or the APA. Then I need to submit my renewal as it is due by the end of July and I'll be gone. So need to get it all done by next Wednesday night!!!
DD#2 leaves tomorrow morning for 2 months. She is first going to her sister and bil for 5 days in Toronto and then to NY for camp training and working at camp. She is working with special needs young adults and teenagers... First session she will be working with 20 something adults who are doing vocational type activities at camp. Second session she will be a shadow for a teenage girl going into 10th grade....at least that is what is the plan for now, but camp said that could change. If she is a shadow second session, then she will go with them on a week trip to LA....long, long flight from NY!. She is really excited. Her cousin is also working at the same camp. While packing, she was so, so stressed as she was worrying how she will pack in 2 duffel bags for a year. I told her that she would be schlepping linens or toiletries like she is for camp. She has 2 months worth of toiletries, 2 sets of sheets, towels etc. Hard to believe that I'm empty nesting (for now)!!! I've had kids at home for 30 years!!
Sweet dreams!
-
Karen your kids are well grounded they'll be back - they're known as the boomerang generation Mysunshine, congratulations on your new baby. Ruth glad the brace did its job. Mary love hearing of your nature runs, so crazy to thing there is so much wildlife in urban areas.
Tonight did a Body Combat class and last night was too tired to go to the gym so just did on demand of Sh'bam class, it's not the same dancing in my living room as opposed to dancing in the gym.
-
Core workout this morning inside - pouring rain like crazy here! Been feeling blah lately with a scratchy throat - uh oh. Hope I can stave it off.
-
My supervisor clearly not impressed with my effort today!
Pilates done!
Karen you sound like me before I retired! Cleaning and clearing !
Mats fan hope you're not picking up a bug.
-
Gargle with warm salt water, Mary,
PlanB, my cat, Oreo, comes down & supervises when I exercise in the basement. He is very good at the yoga stretches!
I went to Pound (and ended up doing Circuit Training because our teacher was sick....yuck, I don't like Circuit), stayed for yoga & spent the rest of the day watering my yard. I am going to do a product recommendation if you ever need a brace......one of my friends was having trouble with her knees, so another lady is our exercise class recommended a brand of brace she wears & swears by, so when I wanted to get an ankle brace, I ordered one of the same brand & it already has made a difference. It is called Incredibrace ( we got ours from Amazon). It is not compression based, or filled with copper but infused with germanium and carbon which are activated by body heat and increase blood flow to the skin and muscles; which in turn reduces pain, swelling, stiffness etc. Very comfortable, non-constricting, and washer/dryer safe. If you ever need a brace, check it out.
-
Thanks for the recommendation Ruth. Sounds like a winner.
Congratulations PlanB! Love your picture with your supervisor.
Nats: Ugh. Hope your throat gets better.
Hello Everyone! Hot and muggy, hot and muggy, hot and muggy. I didn't exercise yesterday but I did this morning. It was a tad bit better than when dh walked in the afternoon when it was really really hot.
Edited to add: I had a bone density scan this past Monday. My results came back as Normal. Yea!
-
Wonderland....great news on the bone density. My last one was 1 1/2 years ago and it showed I have osteoporosis. I took biophosphonates while I was on AI's but stopped when I stopped AI's. MY PCP doesn't want me on them. She says only 10 years and she rather have me on them when I'm 70!!! Hope to celebrate 70, but that is only 10 years away!!
DD left today. I went to the ticket counter with her to help with her luggage and then walked to security with her...I waited till she went through the line. If it was hard saying good bye for 2 months, what am I going to do when she leaves in the fall for the year...Granted, I'll go visit her so it will be almost 4 months then 5+ months of not seeing her. Everyone keeps telling me that I'm empty nesting!!! Yes, I know, but I've enjoyed having my kids around. My son has moved away for school and jobs, but has also come back. Its nice to have a meal with him and cross paths every so often. Now he is in S.D, till at least October or possibly through April. Its weird to just be cooking for 2!!
We had a big rainstorm this afternoon...soaking wet rain. It started raining when I left my mom's and driving home I stopped at the store and it was pouring but still ran into the store to pick up a couple things. Got wet in and out of the car!! After the rain if was quite pleasant out, a nice evening, but it is heating back up.
Need to get organized over the next several days before I leave. Trying to make a list of all what needs to be done (besides packing). Speaking of packing, DD said she didn't think her one large duffel bag would make it to Israel next year....well, I'm surprised it made it to Toronto!! DH and I were putting duck tape on a few spots. I told her to buy more duct tape in case she needs it coming home!!! So need to look for a good deal on a large duffel rolling bag. This was from Costco but there new ones are just slightly smaller. I have time to look when I get home.
Going to finish the last closet then I'm done organizing for the summer. Didn't get to the furnace room or crawl space!! and there is lots and lots to go through in both places. Now I have to work on renewing my national certification (it gets me more $ at work) which includes 10 hours of online classes. I have more than plenty but 10 hours have to be from NASP or APA. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute. A few errands to run next week, get together with a couple girlfriends, get a mani, pack and then its time to leave. And spend time with Mom.
Well, I best go finish the closet and go to bed at a decent hour. Sweet dreams
-
PlanB your supervisor is adorable, a little bit of a hindrance but adorable. Mary like Ruth says gargle it really helps, sometimes the blah feeling is worse than the cold itself. Wonderland congrats on the good bone density, I need to get one and it's time to make my annual check up appointment. Karen your industriousness makes me envious, I need to clean out drawers and closets but I open them and close them again
Tonight did Body Pump with my Vietnamese friend, I marvel at what a fantastic instructor he has become, he really is top notch, then because I didn't have enough steps for the day I did my Sh'bam dance class on demand - the dogs look at me like I'm insane dancing around the living room.
-
Whew Karen, if you run out of things to clean & organize, you can come over to my house and get me going!
I rode on a bike at the Y for 45 minutes & did 30 minutes of arms & abs with Denise Austin at home (I tried to get my cat to pose for a picture but he decided that going outside to eat grass would be more fun ). Tomorrow we are at DH's family reunion in S.D. so the only exercise I will get is of the jaw (gabbing and eating).
-
Been out of pocket this week and missed all the posts. Had to stay out of the gym because they hadn't fixed the air. Landlord fight. According to Dd they replaced the unit today ($8K and a crane to get it on the roof). Got a surprise day off so Dh and I left early for our weekend mini-break. Suite hotel, Force Awakens (own the video and still haven't seen it) at the lake beach tonight and beach/lake day tomorrow. Back to the now air conditioned gym on Sunday to feed the hungry Fitbits. I will at least be walking the paths around the lake tonight before the fireworks and movie.
Scottie

Wonderland, Congrats on your bone density scan!! Such a relief, I am sure!
Cheryl, you are an exercise warrior!
Ruth, enjoy your reunion!! Gab and sculpt!!😃😃
-
hi all, this is a fast-moving thread (pun intended LOL). Just got caught up! Will BBL but need to go walk while still cool. ♥
-
Oh gee, glad you mentioned "need to walk while still cool", Badger. After a couple of pleasant days I see it's heading back to 89 today. I will have to do the same.
Came on to report 35 minute walk last night and 23 minute walk at lunch on Thursday.
PlanB clearly kitty is not into exercise, except the mat! Whenever I try to do any exercise at home my dog thinks I'm playing.
Yay to the good bone density, Wonderland.
Gab and sculpt. That might burn calories but I'm usually eating with that activity, so I know I negate it!
Enjoy you weekend away, Scottie!
-
I walked 40 minutes around the lake. I love to see all the wild flowers in bloom. Here's some happy ones.
-
TH - Nice! So glad I got out early. With the humidity it wasn't exactly cool but a good breeze and a shady park made for a pleasant walk. Watered the flowers and new patch of grass, now thinking nap.
Keep up the good work, everyone!

Today was the most lovely June day and I got to do an adventure I had wanted to do for the last several years. It was to explore the old mining towns and upland farmland southeast of Seattle. This turned out to be more of an adventure than planned because several times, the markers had been washed away in the rain, and I needed my smartphone GPS to get back on course!
The ride started with a route I know, up to an old mining town for a water stop; then back under the mountains to much smaller places that I think I have visited in the past, but know less well. After that, it opened into farmland and magnificent views of mountains and fields. Lots of critters too. All looked happy as lush pastures from all the rain.
I took my time which annoyed the people checking on the riders, but my feeling was that I don't get to do this ride everyday, and it does take about an hour to drive to the start from here. The scenery for the second half of the ride was just breathtaking!
A couple of mishaps. The first was that a bee stung my face just about the halfway point. I kept going. And I have a flat tire which turned out not to be a major mishap as didn't go flat until I was done with the ride! But I missed the bike shop closing, so will need to fix in the AM.
All this puts me at 87 miles for the past 2 days, and I need to do >100 to be fully prepared for the big ride just 3 weeks hence. Today was 67 miles with 2000' of climbing.
I had a second serving of strawberry shortcake at the end, and opening a good bottle of wine to have with my steak dinner! Just fumigated myself and had a nap.
Life is good!!! - Claire

Gorgeous pictures Claire and TH.
Drove to San Diego today for the grand opening of the new 24 Hour Fitness in Escondido. I love these grand openings as they go all out and have fabulous instructors, got to do Body Pump, Body Combat, CX Works and Body Jam. Somehow in a room with 70 people in Body Jam I ended up in the front row directly in front of the instructor which means you have to work harder
At lunch I was bemoaning the fact that I'm getting too old for Jam and the very young handsome man I was talking to told me nooooo to us you are the heart of Body Jam awwww dancing does make me feel young at heart.
-
Two Hobbies, beautiful picture!!
Yikes, Claire!! That had to hurt!! Hope you are OK! You certainly deserved the strawberry shortcake!!
Again, I Say, you are a Body Jam warrior, Cheryl!!
Walked a lot yesterday and climbed many stairs!!
-
Lovely,Claire. I applaud you for taking the time to enjoy it too! I walk in the forest preserves and it annoys me to pieces that people go to a beautiful natural place and then never look around and talk on their cell phone the entire way. Yesterday they missed the muskrat, the wildflowers, water lillies blooming, young geese, tall grass doing waves up the hill.
Cheryl I see you dancing to the Dancing Queen song in my head. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life...
-
LOL TH I was thinking of Dancing Machine by the Jackson 5
She's moving, she's grooving, dancing until the music stops now, yeah
Storms last night tapering off to a nice gentle rain, will go walk in a bit.
-
I like that one better, Badger. It's livelier!
-
Hello everyone!
Today I walked by the bay for an hour, before the heat. It was beautiful outside, I enjoyed the walk. Afterwards I did some crunches to get some muscle in the middle, lol.
Two Hobbies-Beautiful picture! Your walk sounds beautiful too!
Claire-Wow, you are getting quite the workout while training. The bee sting must be painful, my son got stung on his eyelid one summer and it hurt terribly.
Cheryl- Your classes sound like fun! Years ago I had a friend that lived in Escondido, it's been years since I have been out that way. I do remember it being pretty
Kindergarten-Stairs are a great workout!
