CT Scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis

Hello

I am wondering if anyone was ordered a CT scan of the chest, abdomen and pelvis before the chemotherapy can start? My onco ordered one, but I don't remember why.

I'm pretty sure my onco said something about that, but she gave us so much information.

I was diagnosed with IDC, 2.5 tumor, stage 2 grade 3, on 5/2, mastectomy with reconstruction and tissue expander on 5/23 as well as sentinel lymphs nodes removed on that same day, which they came negative.

Any advised, thoughts???

Thank you all

My onco ordered one, because of how many lymph nodes I ended up having. She said if it's just a few involved, like 3 or 4, she doesn't usually order one, but when there's a lot of nodes involved she does one just in case, although she said it's still only a 10 to 15% chance it's spread. Before my surgery, we thought it was only 3 nodes involved, and she said then it was a 1 to 2 % chance of spread and wouldn't have ordered the CT and bone scan.

It looks like you have no nodes involved and maybe that's why you don't have one ordered? I have heard from many people they don't always do these full scans unless you have certain risk factors (like a lot of nodes) or are symptomatic of mets but have also heard a few people say they got all the scans possible even at early stages.

I don't know if this helps. If you got all this info before surgery it could have all changed based on the pathology of your surgery, I know my plan did. Can you call your onco or one of their nurses and clarify?

    Hi Lindzane

The lymphs nodes came negative and my onco did order a ct Scan, ( sorry, I should have specified) :(

So I really don't remember why she ordered that. It was so much information on my first onco visit.

I hope everything goes well for you, keep fighting.

Hi there. I had CT scans. I didn't elect Chemo though. They still did what he called "staging" scans. I was happy to have them done and have everything checked out!

Hi, was that to make sure the cancer hasn't spread? I'm just getting overwhelmed with everything, so much information and so many appointments, and the wait. Plus thinking about having to return to work after the surgery. Is all getting a bit much.

    Thank you.

Instead of going right back to work after surgery can you use family leave or disability?

    Good morning,

It'll be six weeks by the time I return to work from the survey date, I have been on fmla and disability. I do have a lot of restrictions from the surgeon, so I don't even know if my employer will accommodate. (And I want to save some fmla days for when I do start chemo)

I still haven't heard anything about my results of the ct scan.

I'm just getting very overwhelmed with all of this .

    Ps: thank you for responding

Once my mom was diagnosed and before her masectomy, she had a full body scan and a bone scan to make sure it hadn't spread. If it had spread or there were any differences found, she would have had to have chemo first and then the masectomy second. Luckily, her scans were clear.
