short term disability question

Options

I submitted a claim for short term disability for my surgery in two weeks. I am fairly certain I will need chemo. Not sure if it is problematic to return to work after surgery and then put in second claim when I know all the details about my treatment or is it better just to have one disability claim? The coverage is through my employer. Thank you.

It is better to keep it on one claim if you can because each new claim will have a 'waiting period' and if you go back to full work, you'll have to start all over again. My employer plan allowed me to work up to 80% of my regular hours to keep the claim open but your plan my be different

Short term disability plans can be pretty persnickety, and each is different. Your HR department is the best source for the details of your plan. Once you have that information, you can work with your surgeon and oncologist to be certain you are getting the optimal benefit from the plan.

While your manager will certainly need to know you will be out, he or she will not need to know your diagnosis.

I work way too hard and now have to call multiple times for short term disability related questions.
