Minimal Side Effects from AC

I am getting ready to do my 3rd round of AC administered every other week and have had minimal hair loss or side effects. Hair loss was NOT a concern of mine. I just wanted whatever it took to get rid of the cancer. I shaved my head when it did start to thin because I was in pain every time I put my head against anything. My hair was VERY short and I was prepared for it. I still have to shave my legs, my eyebrows are in desperate need of a wax.

I have had no change in the taste of food, nausea for a day maybe 2. The biggest side effect I am having in I lose 1 day where I sleep all day.

I know, so what do I have to complain about? Truth is I am worried I am not getting enough of the drug or it isn't working correctly. I have been shown the formula and all the information. I'm just feeling like what is the deal? Why is my body acting so "out of the norm"? Does this mean the drugs aren't working correctly on my? Yes, I will be having this conversation with my Dr tomorrow but just wanted to see if I am the only one? I feel like a crazy woman.

Hi Dawn, it is great you are having few side effects if any. This has nothing to do with dosage or drug efficiency, it just means your body is healthy enough to withstand chemo and preventive drugs I am sure you are given work well.

I also suspect you are younger than most of us and age plays a big role in how we react to treatments. I turned 55 when I was going through AC. I was never nauseous and had an excellent appetite. Whatever minor complications I had, were related to reconstructions and expanders filling that I was doing at the same time as AC. The only serious complication I had, was low red blood counts by the end of the cycle that required blood transfusion.

Good luck on completion of AC and smooth sailing through the rest of your treatment plan!

I would take it to mean the medications they use to manage the side effects work well for you rather than being about the chemo itself! TThat's great and congrats on being halfway done with the AC piece!

Thanks. I had a great discussion with my doctor about this. The fact that I am 49 in excellent shape and otherwise in excellent heath has a great deal to do with my reaction to the meds.

I am also having the red blood cell issue as well as my platelets. Thus causing exhaustion.

    Thank you for your reassurance.
