Targeted Therapy for Stage 3?

I was reading about targeted therapies for breast cancer, and it seems that unless your cancer is HER+ there aren't really targeted therapies until the cancer has progressed to stage 4. Is this correct? I was reading about everolimus/afinitor and wondered if any stage 3-ers are taking it? I am finished with treatment and just had ovaries and tubes removed. Moving into post-treatment is a hard adjustment for me, and I can't stop wondering if I should be doing more to prevent a recurrence.

I am not sure whether palbociclib is considered targeted therapy or not but I know there are some trials under way that enroll stage 3 patients.

    Hi Hammie,

Ibrance (palbociclib) is a targeted therapy for use in patients with advanced stage (Stage IV), ER+, HER2- cancer. In some cases, doctors may be able to get approval for locally-advanced (Stages IIIB or C) disease, though the FDA has not approved Ibrance for this indicatication. See the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Ibrance for a full description of how it's used. Do you know what Stage III your cancer is?

Also, as muska suggested, you may want to consider enrolling in a Clinical Trial where you may be able to find additional treatment.

    We hope this helps!

    Hi Hammie

I have the same concern and my MO has suggested Ibrance.
