Yay bjsmiller! Welcome to the club!!

(I'm trying to take note of my SEs as I move past this. I can't say a lot of progress on my skin but also not getting worse. Not sure if anybody else felt that the itching got worse toward the end and after treatment was over? FWIW, I try not to think about it, and sometimes take some ibuprofen. I'm still napping most days but feeling really good.)

Ingerp, re: itching, mine started a few days AFTER treatment ended. It peaked about a week after rads and it was just in one little spot, about the size of a quarter. Weird. I'm two weeks out tomorrow, still a little discolored, still a wee bit bumpy, but very little itch - not even worth talking about at this point. Tiredness also set in after treatment ended and I do find I'm out of steam by about 9 p.m. if I've had a busy day. In the grand scheme of things, all very minor stuff. I'm in awe of you hosting loads and loads of people in about a week's time! Get lots of rest!!

    Congratulations bjsmiller!!

I have been walking, every day, since diagnoses last November and I agree, exercise certainly does help, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thanks for the encouragement to continue walking, much easier to do since the weather here is so much nicer now.

I've completed 4 of 25 treatments and am just a tad red at the end of each day, so I keep putting on the Lubriderm. I am lovingly caring for my aloe plants, ready to use them as soon as needed.

Hope everyone is well and has a good day today.

congrats bjsmiller! I can't wait to say that my last day of rads has come!

Tbalding, I wasn't given any info on stretching so hopefully I don't have problems there. I've tried going braless with just a camisole but I just can't do it. I've had a hard enough time doing it at home because my sons always have boys at the house. As open minded as I am I still has some old fashion ways that my Grandmother taught me. I wear a tank or camisole turned inside out and then a sports bra that I have slit the sides (so not to rub) over top of it. I will be glad to lose that part of all this. I want my real bra back! Other than that it is going great! I've bonded with my techs. Yesterday they were talking about how I always smell so good when I come in so I told them I would bring 2 perfumes everyday for them to try to see if they like them. I'm so glad everything is going well for you also. We almost have the 1st week under our belt. I'm anxious to hear from truffles too!

    Congratulations, bjsmiller!

I'm curious: who all normally puts lotion on your chest as part of your normal, non-rads routine? I never did. I put lotion on my legs and moisturize my face but nowhere else seems to need it. Well, my heels do, but I ignore them. So I can't wait until I can stop moisturizing my chest and staining my shirts. Am I the odd duck on this as I am with my paper gown?

Tomorrow I start my boosts on my right side so the left is DONE. Almost there, only eight more!

paxton29 I never mosturizedi anything other than legs, feet and face...until now! I don't even get a gown. I undress right there in front of them and have a small washcloth to cover left breast (noncancer breast). No privacy with my bunch but that's ok. At this point more people have seen me naked or topless in the last month than all my 45 years! Oh well. Congrats on almost being done!!!

    Hi All!!

Just wanted to say that today I finished 28 whole breast treatments, and tomorrow I will start #1 of five boosts. Looking to be done with my spring rads next Thursday!!! Woo Hoo! I am red all over, but the worst part is by my neck. It is very sore. Doctor says that's because the skin is thinner there. She said is should heal up quickly now that I am done with that part!!

Congratulations to all who have finished, all who are finishing soon, and to those just starting I wish you a quick journey!!

Paxton29 - I never put lotion on my breasts until chemo. I had dry skin everywhere after my first treatment.

Hi Everyone...I'm from the Jan 2016 Chemo group. I start rads on one week, doing 4 weeks (boosts included). I was very surprised to find out how painful it was to hold the position needed every day. Both arms out, hands meeting behind my head with wrists overlapping. Don't know how I will be able to hold that position. I actually had a PT appointment after my simulation appointment. Doing stretches every day, but I don't have much hope for no pain. Chemo was a breeze for me. I don't expect the same with rads

    Congratulations bjsmiller! A milestone!

    I have 2 to go!

Grazy and Ingerp I agree with the fatigue increasing towards the end! I have been sleeping 12/13 hours! I never sleep that much! I am also an itchy mess. The soaks seem to be helping and my nipple area is no longer a black/brown color. I hope that I have more energy soon. Almost there!

Paxton I never put lotion on my chest before either. Might have to continue if it still looks fried!

    Tomorrow is TGIF

Day 4/21, still doing ok. Tired today but don't think it's fatigue from rads. Not sleeping good because of work, hard to shut brain off. Trying to keep up with work & fit rads in is hard. Glad tomorrow is Friday, looking forward to the weekend. Hope everyone else is doing well.

After my DIEP in 2012 my plastic surgeon said to massage moisturizer all over my chest and breasts everyday to make the tissue soft.  It just became part of my routine out of the shower until rads when I started using cleansing oil in the shower to help moisturize my very angry skin.  I am on 20/33 and I am an itchy pain mess.  My shoulder is hurting and my back is all broken out.  Techs said I still look good though and I will see the doctor for my regular weekly appointment tomorrow.  Happy tomorrow is Friday but kinda dreading what next week will do to my already very unhappy skin.

ladsgma, bjsmillerand Ingerp: Big hugs and congrats on being done. I wish you all of the best.

I am on day 20 tomorrow. So far the skin is holding up well. I have been using a coat of Calendula cream first and then apply Aquaphor. I do this right after my treatment and then again at bedtime after a shower. After next week I start the boosts. I had a planning session today and will be prone for these treatments. My back is so marked up I feel like I was on an episode of SkinWars. One thing that has really helped are the integrative nurses here at the radiation center. Once a week I get a session with them for massage, healing touch, guided imagery and other healing therapies. It is a great feature to having treatment here

Thanks to everyone for the sharing and encouragement. This is very therapeutic and informative.

Bjsmiller - Congratulations! It must feel wonderful to be done!

    Autumn121 & PlanB58 - You're in the home stretch! Woo hoo!

Cathytoo - Welcome! I'm really uncomfortable as well. I'm hoping that it lessens as my treatment progresses. Hang in there! We will get through this together!

Paxton29 - Reading all the replies, I feel like I'm the odd one out. I used to moisturize everywhere! I've spent a small fortune on Bath & Body Works scented body washes and lotions. I have baskets full of them in my bathroom. However, since being diagnosed I have been using fragrance free lotions.

cbowle and tbalding - We have made it through 4! Yay! I don't notice any changes with my skin or any itching. I am starting to feel sore under my arm, but I'm not sure if it is from rads or from the awkward position I am in during my treatment. I'm still using the Eucerin and aloe vera. I wear a sports bra during the day, but once I get home after treatment, I go braless. I have tissue expanders, so I don't really need the support. They are like boulders cemented to my chest! Lol!

Congratulations to everyone finishing up and good luck to everyone still in progress! I hope we can end the week with minimal side effects!

I'm at 17/25 now. it's pretty amazing how it is just flown by, I am red and itchy along my collarbone and upper back. The rest of the are is pink but feels okay. Nipple is a bit sensitive. I'm hoping it doesn't get too much worse than this. Slathering on glaxol base 3x a day ( since my treatments are in the afternoon I put it on first thing in the morning, after treatment, and before bed) and using hydrocortisone on the itchy spots.

Grazy, ma soeur--I agree with things being a little worse after stopping tx (although it's only been three days--feels like ages!!), and I had heard this was coming. My RO said she thought I'd probably turn the corner this weekend.

I was just out running a few errands and there was one of those carts with lots of deeply discounted leftover stuff at the grocery store (which I always have to at least take a quick peek at). I bought a half-price tube of A + D ointment--for the Canucks, it's a diaper rash cream that's been around since the 19th century. One of the creams I've been using (the Miaderm? can't remember right now) mentioned diaper rash as a use, so I looked at the ingredients on the A + D and it's mostly lanolin and petrolatum. Sounds perfect to me. I'll be the guinea pig and let you guys know how it works. :-)

RE: body lotion, I always did face/arms/butt/legs/chest before, but never breasts. However, when I first started showing some skin effects, my RO said to the RN, "Look at her chest--you can see exactly where she's been getting sun." Like everywhere above where a scoop-necked shirt would be is much worse than the rest of the breast. Sun damage is a real thing. :-(

Interesting note about all the stuff I have coming up (for those who are newer or have forgotten, one of my kids is getting married at my house a week from today; the next day we're hosting a pig roast for ~125 people). I've been sleeping pretty well throughout the process--some nights even a little better than normal just from the fatigue, I think--but I really haven't slept well at all since Tuesday--my last day of rads. I think all the bc stuff really left my head and the wedding/pig roast stuff has totally taken over my brain space. People have been saying maybe it's just as well I was dealing the the bc during my crazy busy spring because everything would take my mind off it, and it really did a lot of the time, but in some weird way the bc was a nice distraction from the wedding stuff. How weird is that??

Happy Friday to all. More yardwork and housecleaning for me this weekend, but the GREAT news is the first of my kids arrives home tonight. #happymom

Ingerp- keep us posted about the A&D ointment because I already bought some but haven't tried it yet. 14 more treatments after today! I have to see a lymphedema PT on next Friday since I have swelling in breast and a little in the axilla, and some cording. If anyone has any experience with this I'd love to hear from you. Everyone have a good weekend!

5/21 done. Still doing ok, no noticeable se from rads. Have some irritation from tape covering marks. They gave me tats but still have some marks & tape. Techs made new marks & moved tape. Suppose this will be weekly deal. Glad to have weekend off, but won't be home much.

Ingerp, good luck getting everything ready. Hope you can get some sleep.

Happy Friday all, hope you have a relaxing weekend :)

Congratulations to all that have finished and near finishing!! Ihad my 2nd appt after planning today for more X-rays and RO approved the plan so Monday I start: 25 whole breast, 5 boosters. Let the fun begin! I do want to get going and get it done, but I am also nervous :) but I suspect everyone feels that way. Today they even let me look at the X-rays and confirmed my heart isn't in the target zone...whew! Appts are at 7:30 am which is great....this place is on my way to work so I will only be a little late! Another whew! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Has anyone had radiation post mastectomy? My medical team is on the fence about me having radiation on my left breast. I had 11 cm of DCIS with one close margin. I had 6 mm IDC on the right with clear margins. They think the radiation could help on the left but I am worried because it is over my heart and lung and I had an immediate reconstruction, over the muscle implant placed at the time of surgery. The decision is up to me but I am confused!

I am post BMX by 3years with a recurrence.  Radiation was not thought to be helpful the first go around with my modified radical mastectomy but after it came back it was a given after surgery.

Do any of you feel you will be disfigured after this treatment?  Are any of you planning on surgery to improve the appearance?  I just am feeling like everytime I go in I am doing horrible things to my body.  Will I ever be able to wear a scoop neck tshirt again? Just finished 21/33 and my chest looks like the old lady on There's Something About Mary.  And I know it going to only get worse.  My adorable young RO said oh yeah it might heal will a tan overcast ....as she wears this nice vneck dress.

Thank goodness the weekend is here,  Lousy tough last week.  Glad for the break.

Hootowl--I gotta say I didn't love the smell of the A+D but I think it's working as well as anything else. It's still in my rotation of like six things now--I put two or three on every time I'm applying stuff, pretty much picked at random.

So at 11 days post whole-breast/5 days post boosts I'm not sure I'm exactly healing but I did notice the skin in my armpit seems to be turning a little more tan than red and I'm pretty sure I'm not getting any worse.

One of my kids arrived Friday and the bridal couple will be here in a couple of hours. 😃😃

My last boost is tomorrow. I'm pretty well burnt on my breast. This morning a blister has popped up on my incision scar. I'll check in with the nurse before I go back to see what I can use. I didn't really burn until then last week of regular rads. I feel pretty fortunate that I'm nearly done. I'm pretty uncomfortable and it's starting to hurt.

I'm really dreading this next week.  I have been miserable with itchy hot skin this whole weekend.  Cannot imagine another whole week of radiation on this very angry skin.  It was going so well I think I just thought I would sail through.  Went to the grocery store this morning and bought every single thing suggested on this website. I will see what works.  So far the cortisone cream by far is the best.  Any lotion just burns more and makes it itchy.

2 more weeks and 2 more days....I know I can do this, I just absolutely hate it.

Deaconlady and newgirl, yal can do it. The side effects can sometimes seem to be too much, but it will get better. Just use your creams as much as possible and hydrocortisone was my saving grace! You can do it!!!!!!
