thanks for the reply though OAJ.

i talked to my oncologist. she said that it could be the neulasta causing the high counts now. allergies may have caused it before.

    hope everyone is doing well!

    ladies.

For those of you with the neulasta shot who also take Claritin. When do you take the Claritin?

    Thanks!

I take it starting the morning of the shot and then a total of 7 days. So for me Tuesday - Monday.

I take it the morning I get the shot and take it for 5 days after and I have no side effects.  Funny thing though that my Oncologist never heard of Claritin being a good remedy for pain with this shot and none of the Oncology nurses ever heard of it for the Neulasta shot either, not even the Neulasta nurse who administered it to me the first time. I inject myself now.  However, I would not take any chances and not take it, better to be safe than sorry.ThumbsUp

I had a hard time with round 3 AC and had to be hospitalized for 3 nights because I had no energy and couldn't get up for 8 days after it. When I got to the hospital I was put on a drip and after spending the night on fluids I was feeling great the next day. My last, 4th AC, was cancelled and I am going straight to Taxol this week. My nails are fine, I have lost most of my head hair but none of the rest of my body hair although my leg hair is still growing but very slowly. I lost a couple of lbs and gained them again. I had a mixture of constipation and diarrhoea and I feel that contributed to keeping my weight stable. Hoping that Taxol is easier. I already had my lumpectomy so no tumour to shrink, but I would say that yours has as I have read this on other forums from people who have had their tumours shrinking after 3 ACs.

Mine is really starting to soften! It almost feels like nothing is there. After round 2, my surgeon did an ultrasound and said she could tell it is softening, but mine is so big, it's hard to really measure and see it shrinking. She said one way she measured was smaller, but another direction it seemed the same. My lymph node, however, did shrink in half! And another lymph node is starting to get the fatty hilum back. So it is working!!! One more AC round on Monday and then Taxol begins. I'm still really tired a lot and my throat gets raw but no mouth sores yet. I've gained weight. I'm constantly hungry but nothing ever satisfies me bc it tastes like mush. I'm also pretty much bald.

Hi oaj and numb. Thanks for the feedback.

Dear Numb. So sorry you had a rough time with the AC. I have my fourth and final AC Thursday. So looking forward to never having AC again

Some say taxol is a breeze compared to the AC. Hope is my timid friend.

I am on round 3 and have found it has gotten worse each time. I am actually hit the hardest the day of chemo. I have an hour or two and then I get a migraine and severe nausea. Luckily this round 3 I was able to just go right home and sleep. My doses are every 2 weeks for 4 rounds and can't wait to move onto Taxol, as they tell me it will be easier. I end up with nausea for 11 days and the shots cause bone pain and slight fever. My taste buds are off, the steroids keep me up, I get constipated. It is all no fun. With the first round I got thrush and mouth sores. My pharmacist suggested I suck on ice chips while chemo is delivered and it worked. I didn't get mouth sores round 2 and so far so good with round 3, although I'm only 5 days in. At this point I'm feeling blessed to get 3 good days before I go and do it again. Emotionally round 2 was tough because it was much harder. My hair started falling out Day 16 and I shaved it Day 17 which helped with tenderness. Remember every chemo journey and reaction can be different though. For me I'll be so glad to move on from AC.

Had my fourth and final AC today! It was the most difficult yet bc of that darn red devil! I still want to barf thinking about it! I haven't yet, but this is the most nauseous I've been yet. So thankful I don't have to do that one again! Two weeks and I'm on to taxol!

Yes, it's over, and congrats!! I found Taxol so much easier and I did SIX of each. Just enjoy the day and be thankful that you are past AC. I will say that you will have about 5 days on your first Taxol round when you will have symptoms of both. (Don't schedule a computer upgrade for that time as I did.) Then, you should be past it all and on to the rest of your life.

Don't drown your smart either, as I did. You will be DONE by the end of the summer. Good times ahead.

Make sure you get out there when you can. Yes, you can do this! - Claire

Claire in Seatle - So are you saying that the first Taxol is the worst ? Just wondering as I have just done my first Taxol and did have a similar crash to AC on Day 3 but not as severe, and then yesterday on Day 5 I got extremely tired and had to go to bed. Can't imagine this tiredness to get worse with each round of Taxol.

No, it got better after about Day 5 so hang in there. I remember needing a nap during that time. Get out and walk if you can. That will help in two ways: 1) get you moving and 2) you will also sleep more deeply and oddly require less of it.

My red blood counts came up during Taxol to low normal and with it, my general energy. During the first round, you are still recovering from AC as well as the Taxol infusion. Good luck and feel better soon. - Claire

thanks to my coworkers coughing and sneezing and picking their noses constantly in the lab, I have a sore throat.

I hope this doesn't mean my AC will be cancelled. Any one get AC with a sore throat and cough?

Also my unaffected breast keeps hurting...a lot. Anyone else with this issue?

Laura - when I went through chemo, I had a slight sore throat and cough, but I got #3 AC. In fact, I coughed my way

through all of chemo, including Taxol. I became allergic to gluten/wheat during chemo and 4 years later, I am still allergic.

Yours sounds like it is a cold! My sister got the flu when she was on AC, and they postponed it. Sending my best wishes!!

    Hey Laura,

My throat was hurting over the weekend, so I did lots of salt/baking soda gargling, and it helped alleviate the pain for a bit each time. Then, a cough started that moved down into my chest. My blood count was completely fine on Monday. My Drs sent a z pack to the pharmacy just in case it got worse turned into an infection, but I have been fine so far. Good luck

Hey Laura, eosinophils are usually as result of allergies or asthma or a list of other stuff. There's a condition where your eos could just be high cause your bone marrow likes to make them. SEe this link:

Laura_Ingalls -I probably had a sore throat for a week after each AC infusion, but it wasn't a cold. And yes, my unaffected breast has been hurting ever since I was diagnosed and I keep on thinking I have cancer in this other breast too. I am just hoping that it is the effects of the chemo that is doing this.

Ugh! This 4th AC is wiping me out! I really, really shouldn't be complaining especially since this is my biggest SE, but I am so tired this time. I can't shake it. :-

OAJ2013 - I know how you must be feeling. I had to stay in bed for my 3rd round of AC. I couldn't get up for 8 days and then had enough and contacted the hospital and they took me in for 3 nights and as soon as I was put on fluids for the first night I was fine. Just goes to show how important it is to drink water. Then my Onc decided to cancel my 4th AC as my white cells were crashing every time I got it. I was certainly relieved not to have the last AC and am now on my 2nd Taxol and so much easier so far. Hope you feel better soon.

    Hi ladies.

I am finished with AC but the cough I had before the last AC turned bad with lots of green mucous coming out of nose and throat. Went to urgent care today to be tested for strep and they gave me antibiotic prescription even though I tested negative for strep. Just got back from urgent care and called the on call oncologist number to make sure I should take the antibiotics.

Anyone else take antibiotics while on chemo? I am supposed to start taxol soon!

    Hugs.

    Hey Laura,

I've been having chest congestion too, and my MO sent over a prescription for a Z pack just in case it turned into an infection. I've had green mucous but no fever, so I haven't taken anything but musinex. It's starting to go away! I have my first taxol on Monday! Good luc

Just wanted to say that I appreciate this thread. I start AC next week, so it is timely for me. I am a little different in that I have already done the Taxol part, so a little worried about extra fatigue from being already knocked down a bit from that. But if anyone has questions about that part I can help with, let me know. Can anyone say specifically which of the nausea meds they found worked best for them with AC? I think I have three prescriptions, a little unsure where to start and why I would want to switch, etc. I didn't need any of them during Taxol (which is good news) but am prepared to use them when I need them!

    Meg,

Congrats on being done with Taxol! I just started it last Monday. For AC I took Dexamethasone and zofran. I had Reglan but never needed it. I also had Ativan for emergencies but never needed it either. I took colace with every zofran to help with constipation.
