I posted in the wrong place before i think. All i know is the radiologist ordered a MRI of abdomen and pelvis after my pet scan. bs is going to call tomorrow I wondered is this common? I dont know how much more i can take. I think im going to wind up in a mental ward with this scanxiety. I just need to calm down and trust Jesus but boy this is hard. I think im stage 4 out of the gate. Any replies would be helpful. God bless you all!! Thank you

    Hi!

You may be Stage IV out of the gate but you may not. PET scans pick up on all sorts of things, some of which do turn out to be mets and some which don't. I've had three PET scans, and this same spot on my left hip kept lighting up. But, it didn't show up on a CT scan or an MRI, so my oncologist believes it is nothing. If she had been able to locate it via MRI, she would have had it biopsied.

In any case, you might want to ask for a prescription for an anti-anxiety drug if your scanxiety is interfering with your capacity to function. Hoping you get good news! Best wishes.

Karey - okay let me try and talk you off the ledge. why did you have a pet scan to begin with? What have you been DX with? Kind of BC? Lots of factors go into why a MRI might be necessary.. . Ask your doctor.

My sister was DX with lobular breast cancer and she does have scans and has had a MRI. Lobular breast cancer travels and is hard to detect plus my sister has dense breasts.

You do need to keep the faith. That's how the vast majority of us have survived our DX.

Why would you think you are Stage IV?

I know you are scared. We all know about the fear factor. Maybe you should consider asking your doctor for anxiety meds. Nothing wrong with needing help to calm down. It is a difficult time but you will get through it. You need a supporting cast so reach out to family and friends.

We are also here to help so keep us posted.

i had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago and snb and 2/3 nodes came up positive so pet scan was ordered. I had the petscan a week ago and iguess something lit up so mri was ordered. My tumor was 2.5 centimeters er+ Pr- the surgeon said he got clean margins. I guess im not real familiar with pet scans. I have anxiety meds and im going to start taking them. I will know more when i talk to bs tomorrow. I will keep you posted. Thank you

    Karey,

Did your surgeon give you a copy of the PET scan report? Or, can you access it in your portal? That may give you a clue about why they're scanning the area in question. All of my PET scan reports would mention the hip issue and say "Cannot rule out metastases." That meant that the PET picked up on the issue, but couldn't say whether it was a met or not. Hope your meeting with the BS goes well.

Karey - try writing down your questions before you see your doctor. The information they give you is overwhelming. Some doctors do rush through the process. I took my husband with me. We are upset and in shock so it's understandable we think of questions to ask after we leave their office.

I really like the portals. My husband's doctor updates his tests results and appointments regularly. Maybe your doctor hasn't had time yet.
