July 2016 Surgeries
I am having my prophylactic right MRI with TE on July 22nd. I don't see a July surgery thread so here goes. If you are scheduled in July post the date and surgery you are having. I will add you at the top here. I also recommend you go read prior surgery threads to get a good idea of what to expect. I have been fortunate to be a part of three different surgery threads and the ladies are awesome!

A great tip from Annie Tater "put up a dry erase board to list all the regular chores we need help with like trash, recycling, watering plants, getting the mail etc. plus a shopping list. So when visitors and helpers come, I can just have them look at the board and choose a chore. "

Hi, I am having a prophylactic BMX July 21st, with TE. I just found this website and it's so helpful with everyone's tips and stories. Thanks for starting this thread!
-
Welcome Doopa! Glad you found this thread. Read the preparing for surgery links. They are very helpful. I found for drain management that Pink Pockets are extremely helpful.
-
hi. I'm scheduled for July 18 th. Bilateral mastectomy with no reconstruction. Anyone doing anything special prior to surgery? A way of saying goodbye tatas?
-
Thanks for ten Pink Pocket site, I am going to order them today. What a great idea instead of buying tops specifically for the drains!
-
No plans set yet, but my wedding anniversary is close to my surgery date so I asked for a bra cake and have been calling it our boob-aversary.
-
Welcome azresuce! No plans but I already had one breast removed last year so this one is affecting me too much. Doopa, the pink pockets are awesome. I used them in my PJ's and my button front tops and they really work! When is your anniversary? Our 25th is on September 8th, so I wanted to be healed by then.
-
My 13th anniversary is July 25th, it will probably be a Netflix kind of anniversary this year but that's ok. I know I'm doing all of this to be able to celebrate many more years together.
-
Hi ladies , how are your preparations going? I got my authorization for both the mx and the TE. Saw my PS assistant who gave me lab order, chest x-ray and ekg orders. This is getting real!
-
Hi Molly, I've floated from April 2016 surgeries to May 2016 then onto June 2016 AND now I've been bumped to July 2016 surgeries. I'll be having a double modified radical mastectomy (DMRM), lymph node dissection and TE placement on 7/6/2016. If I'm bumped again, I'll request a different BS. I have the strange feeling someone from above is really putting me thru some serious testing!
🙏 🙀
-
Welcome WenchLori! That's a long time to wait for surgery!
-
Thank you for the welcome Molly! My feelings are all over the place right now. I go from not thinking about it, to not being able to stop thinking about it to beingextremely angry, and disappointed!
Gggrrrr

It looks like I am now scheduled for my BMX on July 6th with Tissue Expander placement. Most likely with ALND/AND, but I have some additional testing this week to find out for sure if there is a chance I may not need to (I have been doing neoajuvant chemo for the past couple of months.) This will be 10 days before my 40th birthday... not sure how I feel about that right now. At the moment I think I'm just glad to have the surgery decision made, the next stage scheduled and move on with the plan.
-
Welcome Meg2016! Sorry you need a BMX at your young age. I will add your surgery. Let me know if I need to add the alnd.
-
I posted this on June surgeries but I should have posted ithere... Maybe? lol
I love, love, love my PS! I called with some questions this morning and he answered all my questions and offered additional information that I hadn't asked about. I told him my surgery was canceled for 6/6 and rescheduled for 7/6. He wanted to know what the exact reason was for the postponement? I told him I was told it was a personal matter. His reply was "It's a personal matter to you as well its your body. Call your BS and demand an answer. If you don't get an answer call me back and I'll get one for you!" WOW! I'm Stressed with the cancelation but Blessed with such an awesome PS! The BS office said I'd get a response by this afternoon, we'll see?
-
WenchLori, great to have someone fight for you!
-
I agree Molly, my BS did not call me back. I'll give them to 3pm tomorrow then I'll have my PS take over
-
I had a good "text session" with my DIL last night. My DS wanted to be here to sit with his Dad while I was in surgery on 7/6 but decided they'd come the following week. Last night they had a long talk and decided they'd head out from San Antonio TX on 7/6 spend the night along the way and be here on 7/7 to bring me home from the hospital. My DD and her family will head out from Austin TX to be here on 7/10. This way I'll have help staggered over a longer period of time. I have smart children and I love them to pieces!
-
That's wonderful, WenchLori!
-
Molly, I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself! LOL
-
Hello! My BMX with TE placement is scheduled for 7/28. I'm getting excited because for me, it signals I'm getting close to the end since I'm doing neoadjuvant chemo (only one more AC to go!!)
-
Welcome TampaWhit! Congratulations on almost finishing chemo.
-
Welcome and congratulations TampaWhit! Your almost there!
-
Hi, I'm scheduled for a BMX on July 21st. I've been doing a few things to prepare. We don't have a recliner so I reserved one from a medical supply store that has an "auto lift" feature. We had one of those when my mother in law was in hospice and it really helps in getting up/sitting down. I'm worried about getting up and down easily with both of my arms out of commission.
I also went today to get a shingles shot as I've read that cancer treatment can put you at higher risk for developing shingles. It's probably more applicable to radiation and chemo but I'm also concerned that the surgery could irritate things as well.
Anybody else making a pre-surgery "to do" list?
-
Welcome OptimisticbyNature,
Having a plan is a good idea. I felt very prepared for my umx last September after reading surgery threads. I will add you to the list.
-
Hi all, I am scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction on July 14. I just finished my chemo 06/15. I haven't participated in the boards yet, I just kind of had my head down and plugged along to get through chemo.
-
Welcome SoCaKitty, I am glad you decided to post. Congratulations on finishing chemo. I will add you to the list.
-
Well, now I am going to remove myself from July surgery list. I just had some further tests last week, I am going to continue with some more chemotherapy before surgery instead of after. So, that will push my surgery to August at least. Good luck to all of you having July surgery and I'll keep tabs on the thread to prepare myself for Aug!
-
Good luck, meg and let us know how you are doing!
-
Good luck Meg, you'll still be in my thoughts and prayers!
Sometimes I wonder why my BS doesn't feel I need chemo? I read similar dx's to mine that are doing chemo. I also wonder with her putting my surgery off for almost 4 months what my final outcome will be? If it turns nasty I will do what needs to be done of course maybe to include reporting my BS for lack of judgement? It will all come out in the wash I guess? 🙀
-
Lori, I cannot imagine why your BS has put you off for 4 months. I would have found another surgeon by now. Chemo really depends on your oncotype dx which you should get after surgery.
