Hi.

I felt a lump in my left breast on 5/17, saw my doctor on 5/19, had diagnostic bilateral mammogram on 5/20. Lump in left measured at ~2cm, areas of calcification on the right side. Had biopsy on left side on 5/31, on right side on 6/2. Radiologist called today to say that the left side is IDC and that the right side is unsure. They want to do an MRI biopsy of the right to determine what is going on there. I have that scheduled for 6/21, and am trying to find another facility which could take me sooner. Am trying not to freak out, but am not sure I will succeed for very much longer. I don't know what an MRI biopsy is, but will find out asap.

Have you scheduled surgery yet? If the right side is okay, would you have a mastectomy or a lumpectomy on the left side IDC?

What were the biopsy results on the left? Grade, hormone status, HER2?

I wanted a mastectomy so if I were in your shoes I would just go ahead and schedule a bilateral mastectomy, but that's me, and everyone is different. Pathology after surgery would give you answers on the right side (and further confirmation on the left).

You can at least schedule surgery for the left while you wait for info on the right, or maybe you have...

    Hi,

Sorry you have to go through this. Most likely, you have time to make decisions. Get copies of all of your reports. That will tell you the grade and so on of the IDC. Educate yourself by reading the articles on breastcancer.org. Stay away from Google. I highly recommend that you have your surgery done by a breast surgeon. I had both a breast surgeon and a plastic surgeon work on me. I had a lumpectomy and am happy with the results. Every situation is different and every patient is different.

Are you on the cancellation list for the MRI? Have you let your doctor know how long the wait is for an appointment? If the doctor thinks the MRI should be done sooner, maybe they can call and get you in sooner.

    Thank you for your responses.

I have asked for all the reports and will be getting them in a day or so. I was able to get the MRI biopsy moved up to 6/15 and am on the cancellation list. I hhave an appointment with a Breast Surgeon on 6/24, and will try to move that up if I can move the biopsy. My primary hasn't received the pathology reports yet but is in agreement with the Radiologist on having the right biopsy before seeing the surgeon.

I am reading little bits at a time and am so very grateful to have found this site.

    Will keep you posted.

    Thanks again.

Hi, Just wanted to say that I know how scary it can be at first, but once you get a treatment plan in place it gets better. Hang in there!

So I finally received a copy of the pathology report. I have a call in to my MD to explain it to me in words an English major can understand. :)

For the left breast it says: Invasive ductal carcinoma

Tumor size 1.0 cm, Histologic grade(Nottingham) grade II, Gland/tubule formation score 3/3, nuclear pleomorphism score 2/3, mitotic rate score 1/3, lymphovascular invasion absent, In situ component Not present

ER Positive, PR Positive, HER-2 score 0 (negative), Ki67 27% nuclear staining, P53 15% nuclear staining
