hi

I'm 27 years old I did ultrasound 1 week ago in that doctor mentioned that lump is Fibroadenoma and technician said it's more likely Fibroadenoma, yet he ask me for biopsy and I'm in so much stress bcoz of this. If that's Fibroadenoma then why he ask for further biopsy?

    Sabrina,

I've had many Firboadenomas (12 over the years). Even though they can usually diagnose a Firboadenoma or cyst via ultrasound, they usually biopsy them to verify that they are definitively Firboadenomas. If they grow larger or cause pain, they will also recommend removal. It's good that your doctor wants to be thorough.

Fibroadenoma is not unusual, particularly for someone pre-menopause. I had one removed. Biopsy is just to make sure diagnosis is correct. Please try to relax and breathe. You are going to be fine.

Just a question, I'm waiting on results of diag. mammo and U/S but I'm wondering if they always biopsy to be sure and what everyone's experience has been. I have family history of BC through mom who was diagnosed at a young age. Any help would be great. It's been 4 days since test and no word yet. Nerves getting carried away as I read sometimes cancer can be inside the fribroadenoma, so I just want to be safe.

Would primary care dr always be able to feel the lump and say it's fibrosdenoma or something like that? Mine said when she felt it that it was a good sign that it was moveable, but she didn't say it's probably this or probably that. I've read a lot on here where people's drs are saying by feeling the lump that it's probably this or that, but mine didn't. The breast surgeon said it was round, hard and moveable and a little abnormal in shape. If they thought it was nothing bad wouldn't they of said that to me

I had my first Fibroadenoma at age 22, and continued to develop them over the years. I insisted that my surgeon remove each of them (12 total over the years + 1 cyst), but it's my understanding that once they Dx a fibroadenoma they don't always biopsy them. They are benign, and unless they grow and cause discomfort they are harmless.

I was glad that I had mine removed, one of them had a buddy nearby... It's buddy was a 9mm IDC tumor. Unfortunately for me, I seem to be prone to breast abnormalities, and am not the norm. I'm currently scheduled for an excisional biopsy this Wednesday for micro calcifications with atypical Ductal hyperplasia.

Edited to add: My surgeon and my OB/GYN both will usually tell me if a lump feels "worrisome" or not. When I found my last lump my surgeon said "it feels like another fibroadenoma", but he still sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound that same day for diagnostic testing. A lot of doctors wont't give an opinion on feel alone, because you can't definitively diagnose by feel alone. My doctors ALWAYS follow up with imaging and further testing
