Our kitty that has been with us for 22 years went to kitty heaven this morning. She was actually my daughters kitty. We got the kitty when my daughter was 5. I am allergic to a cat scratch so I really didn't want her. But my daughter did so we got her. Ashley was an awesome kitty. Being allergic to a scratch Ashley had 9 claws on the front and 7 on the back. Her feet looked like a catchers mitt. Funny thing she never scratched anyone. My girls would hold her and jump on a trampoline and take her down the slide. She tolerated it all. I began to think that she was going to outlive us all but I guess that didn't happen. I hope she is comfortable in kitty heaven cause she really deserves a heavenly place. Thank you Ashley for so many wonderful years. We love you.

So sorry for the loss of your kitty! I know the feeling...we lost 2 dogs within 6 months or each other and had them for 15 years.

Kandy I am so sorry Ashley was almost 23 right? You posted a picture of her and she was soo sweet -pretty color tan and grey and white. I have never had a cat live so long and she must have had great genes and lots of loving to make it over 2 decades. How is your youngest daughter taking this? Hugs to you all since the fur kids are just as loved as the hairless ones. Hope her memories bring you comfort.

Rosevalley, Krista has been very sad over this. We lost one of our dogs last year that was 16. This brings up death in her mind again. She has talked all day about that she doesn't want to die and we all need to live forever. Like it's not stressing enough. It is so hard when she begs me for something I can not control. My anxiety level is high. I hope your treatment went well

To all my friends here, thank you so much for sharing my sadness. She was an awesome kitty, so sweet.

I understand. Ashley sounds like an outstanding kitty. Our first cat, a sweet calico, lived for 21 years, eight of them with diabetes. We'd give her two insulin injections each day. She never minded them; we think she knew they helped her. Our next cats, litter mates, didn't live nearly as long. They all had distinct, interesting personalities. We kept them indoors. One was never the same after her sister died. When she died, we decided not to adopt another kitty because of travel and other considerations, but we certainly miss having one or two around. Sometimes I see something out of the corner my eye and think, "Oh, there's (name) !" So does my partner. Then we get sad all over again

I can't imagine taking a cat on a trampoline or a slide! Isn't it lovely that pets put up with almost any kind of treatment from the kids they love?

Wow, 22 years is a great run for a kitty. I lost mine last year and still sometimes think she will come strolling out of somewhere. She used to lay on me during my couch naps in the sun and keep me extra warm. Losing a pet is so hard. Very sorry about your loss Kandy...

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. It sounds like Ashley loved you all very much. It is always hard to lose a beloved family member, but I think it hits us even harder.

My childhood kitty (Cuddles) also lived to be around 22/23, and boy did she use up her 9 lives in the process. We'd gotten her as a tiny feral kitten with a big hole in her neck from a fight with a wild animal. My mom said we'd fix her up and then find her a home...little did she know. :) I have a 17 year old now who is on steroids and insulin. Ornery as ever and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Perhaps she's cuddling with our Brandy, a small black dog of unknown genetics, who we lost two weeks ago to age. She was 19. It could happen. Brandy loved cats.

I thank the Universe for companion animals. I can't imagine getting through cancer's challenges without Minna the Anxious Dog, or Fred the Bossy Boy Cat.

Your Ashley might want you to race to the shelter and get another cat. It is kitten season, and the shelters are bursting. We chose our Fred in a process very much like speed dating, as we knew we needed a tough kitty to deal with our dog. Fred's a panther and a cuddler, and the dog still wants to lick him very much. So far, he's not keen on the idea.

Do you still see Ashley out of the corner of your eye?

I'm so sorry to hear that. 22 years is a long run for a cat, but we never have them long enough. Again, I am sorry...

So sorry for your family's loss, Kandy :-( our Skeeter lived 19 years and I know how long it took before we really could get over the loss. She was home longer than the kids...with their going off to college! Our daughters both lost their family's kitties with-in a month...one 13, one 16...never long enough with a pet's unconditional love. I miss having an animal...I hope you find comfort...and maybe another furry friend :-)

I'm so sorry, Kandy. It's always so hard to say goodbye to a fur baby, and 22 years is such a long time. I'm sure she had a wonderful life with you and your family. (((Hugs))) Deanna

What an outstanding cat who gave your family so much love. Loss of our furry children is heartbreaking and I am only a few days past the loss of my faithful, loving, big boy Poodle. Warm and gentle (((hugs)))) to you.
