Hi all,

I had my DMX in 2013, and it became delayed since they were thinking that I might need radiation (i did not.)

We did not put TEs in as we were unsure of what would be happening.

Has anyone else had a delayed DIEP reconstruction without TEs and how was your surgery?

Thanks for any input you have!

    Hi JWoo,

Five years ago, I had delayed DIEP reconstuction. I had a right mastectomy in early January (without tissue expanders), followed by radiation (ended Apri 1st, no foolin'), and reconstruction in late July. On the left side, I had a prophylactic mastectomy with immediate DIEP. On the right side I had the delayed DIEP.

I LOVE the girls! They're warm, squooshy, and a bit bouncy. And, they look fabulous with the tummy tuck!

I had no complications and only minimal discomfort. I remember waking up after 13 hours of surgery relaxed, comfy and cozy.

I'd totally do the surgery again. For me, it was the single biggest step toward healing that I took.

    MargaretEleanor -

Thank you so much for your story! I started to get worried, looking at many of the stories of other women who have had TEs put in, and so few that did not. The few that have talked about it described issues with their skin.

So glad things worked well for you (and what kind of irony is involved with ending treatment on 4/1) It is very encouraging!
