Six Month US on Tuesday
I'm worried about this . Trying to focus on other things like my birthday the day before the test.
What should I expect from US!? IV never had one. Is there anything I should know, do or think about prior to this imaging ?
Wondering also how accurate it may be?
Thanks in advance

Hi Ddw79 - I've been thinking about you and wondering how you're doing. I've had 3 US in the last 18 months. They are watching a cyst. My US are painless. I lay in a hospital bed with the top part of the bed raised to a sitting position. They apply gel to my breast. Then the technician holds a little thing in her hand and runs it over my breast while she watches a computer screen that is in front of her. Mine take about 15 minutes. She is poker face the whole time and gives me no clue what she is seeing. She sends the report to the radiologist. My radiologist then comes in and does the US herself to be sure. I get the results immediately. I don't think there is anything to do ahead of time. I'm not sure but I think US can pick up things that mammograms can't see. I think Joan Lunden's mammogram was fine. I think they did an US to be sure because of density and I think US found cancer that her mammogram missed. Not sure about accuracy. I'm with you on the worrying. I think for those of us at higher risk they alternate US with mammograms because each test can find/miss certain kinds of cancers. I get US with my mammograms every 6 months. They don't rotate mine. I'm having my first 3D mammogram in September and I'm already way more anxious than I want to be. I'm trying to enjoy summer but breast cancer is always in the background. My daughter recently talked to my radiologist who said I have a lot going on in both breasts but so far I'm stable. They won't clear me until 2 years of every 6 month testing of US withmammograms. When is your US scheduled? Keep us posted - hugs to you.

I just re read your post and I see your US is on Tuesday. I would be on xanax right now - it's the only way I can get myself to the appointments. I'll be around this weekend checking the boards if you want to " talk" more

I just had the new full breast ultrasound. I found it stunningly painful and I'm usually pretty tough about these things. It took an hour and twenty minutes . They should suggest meds before you do this. It takes a week she said to read and then she said " don't be surprised if you get a call back,

Dear Ddw79 - I am so sorry to hear about the pain you had with your ultrasound and with how long it took. I wonder if there is more than 1 kind of ultrasound. And I'm really sorry it takes so long to be read. I get my results immediately. How are you doing - with the pain and the waiting? Did she indicate why you should expect a call back? Keep us posted.
