Hi all! Newly diagnosed TN IDC Grade 3, as of right now Stage 2, ki-67 95%. Was just wondering what other TN'S have chosen. Mastectomy or lumpectomy? I'm leaning toward mastectomy, but not 100% sure yet. Confused about it all...

I think you will find that many women chose a mastectomy. I'm having a lumpectomy in July, just finished neoadjuvant chemo. I was told by my surgeon and oncologist that the risks for recurrence, etc were the same (with radiation), which I already knew I was going to need with a positive node.

My reasons... I can always go for a mastectomy in the future if needed/wanted. I'm single, I can't afford to take time off for multiple surgeries (I knew I would want reconstruction). I know not everyone has difficulties with reconstruction, but many do...I just want this all to be over with.

We all have our reasons for our choices, none are right or wrong, you have to do what's right for you. Best wishes, I know it's not an easy decision.

Hello. I also have TNBC. It is located in my left breast. I have decided to have a double mastectomy. I am debating on whether to have reconstruction with implants or leave my chest as is and purchase prosthesis. I think I will have more than enough skin to do implants right after the breast tissue has been removed, so that would be one surgery. There are some beautiful tattoos that can be done to help hide the scar for those that decided not to reconstruct breasts. There are so many options. You have to do what's right for you.

Yodez tough decision but you gotta go with your gut. Did you do genetic testing? When I was dx last year they did genetic testing which they said would help with the decision. I turned out neg for brca 1& 2, but that made my surgery decision harder. Luckily my cancer was under 1cm, and my breasts were large 40dd. I chose lumpectomy. I did have negative nodes but unfortunately I had positive margins and needed a reexcision. I could have had an mx or bmx then but at that point I decided to try to see if my surgeon could get clear margins. Even at the reexcision I had a small area of dcis but it was far enough from the edge of the margin that it was ok.

I was grateful to have the extra benefit of rads as an extra layer of protection after chemo. I lost over 50 lbs since ending chemo in dec and have watched my poor boob shrink with rads and now weight loss. Hopefully next year I will have a reduction and lift on the good side and a lift in the rad side with whatever a ps can do.

I feel recently on the triple neg boards I am seeing more women who have had an lx.

Hugs to you. We all try to make the best decision with the info we have at the time. For me I know I can still have a bmx should I choose to later.

Hi I've come across some information that you may find helpful. I've done a topic box in the science forum. Posting this on a few threads
