    Catherine ,
I am so sorry I just saw this , and wanted to tell you my Husband has had 3 heart attacks. a triple bypass, 2 stents, 3 angio's. he is now 56 this started 5 years ago and he is doing good ,he rides his motorcycle
and takes his meds and watches his fat intake and sodium.

In his case it is hereditary , but they are light years
in heart care than they were when his father passed , I know how worried you are and it took me awhile not to worry all the time. I am here if you have any questions.

    hugs,
    Carrie

Hi Carrie, that is good to know. Jim also had some stents put in. He wasn't sure how many, but there were three major blockages. Now he has to check out more about his diabetes. He may need to start using insulin. He will see a specialist about that.

Thank you everyone for all the words of encouragement.

We just got the hospital bill for Jim's six day hospital stay. It was $100,000. Thank goodness we have an HMO. The only thing that we have to pay for is $200 for "training and education." I think that is a mistake and I told my husband to call to find out why they are charging us for explaining the surgical procedures he needed.

Thank goodness for his company's good insurance.

Uffff! Thank goodness you have an HMO! Is Health Care so much expensive in the States? And what if someone has no Insurance or is disoccupated?

Yes, health care is very expensive in the U.S. There are certain organizations that help out people without insurance, but it's always better to have health coverage obviously.

Personally I was shocked that the bill was so high for only six days in the hospital.

My husband went to work after dinner last night. A few hours later I received a phone call that he was having trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital by paramedics. At first they thought there was a blood clot, but they ran tests and ruled that out. He received breathing treatments and is on oxygen now. He thinks he might get out later today, but we're not sure.

Thanks, ladies! The hospital just kept him overnight and on oxygen. I picked him up yesterday. He has several new prescriptions and will see his normal doctor this afternoon. I asked if he wants me to cancel my free trip to Lake Tahoe with my friend (next Tuesday), but he said he thinks he'll be okay. I'll wait to see how he does this week-end. I'd love to go but I don't want to have him back in the hospital with more lung problems.

I think if he's OK over the weekend and you have an adult child who could get him to the hospital that you could go for a trip. You'll only be a cell-phone away.

    Catherine,

Sorry to hear that your hubby has had more problems. I haven't faced this but worked in meds for awhile and do know also from my brother, that it takes a while mentally to adjust to heart surgery - just like us with BC sometimes we get that panic feeling with a new ache. I'm not saying that is what this is - just that it does happen sometimes - trying to adjust to what has happened to you.

From reading many of your post, you will go if you can feel comfortable; you wouldn't go if you couldn't relax and you would be concerned about messing up your friends trip too. YOu certainly deserve a break and I am sure you have looked forward to this for a long time and it would do wonders to get away and a breath of fresh air - you will make the decision on what you are comfortable with.

I'm sorry that you and your hubby have had to deal with such a stressful event. Will check back and read to see if all is OK. Oh, not surprised at a 6 day stay at $100,000. I stayed overnight after re-excision of margins and SNB and it was $17,000 and there was no ICU charges. Makes your heart stop!!!

    Gentle hugs, Brenda

My husband just phoned from the doctor's office. He has diminished lung capacity, so the doctor will give him disability license plates.

I am sure you are right about the stress from heart problems as well. He also received some additional medications.

Keep your fingers crossed that he's on the mend now.
