Fibroadenoma Removal Surgery

So, I'm 17 and found out that I had a fibroadenoma a few months back. I went in for a follow up ultrasound today and found out that not only had it gotten bigger, but that there were three more around it. My doctor's current suggestion is that I get at least the original surgically removed, since it's getting kinda big. I'm still a little nervous though of the thought of surgery, so I was wondering if those of you who have had a fibroadenoma removed could help me out. Will I probably have to stay overnight? Is there likely to be scarring? What is the postop like? Sorry if those are a lot of questions or if they're bad to ask, I'm just getting kinda anxious, is all.

Thanks.

    Hi

I've had 12 Fibroadenomas removed over the last 21 years. The surgery usually takes about an hour and you go home the same day. You will have general anesthesia for the surgery, so you'll be groggy that day as the medication leaves your system. Recovery isn't bad, you'll be sore for a couple of days, but not bad pain. Your surgeon will prescribe pain meds for the first couple of days to help with discomfort.

Having a long history of Fibroadenomas, I would recommend that, if they are close together, you just have them all removed. It'll save you ongoing stress and worry during your self breast exams. Fibroadenomas are benign, but can cause discomfort if they grow too large.

Thanks Tracy, that helped a lot!

Those websites were also pretty helpful too-thanks "Mods"!

I just want to get this surgery over with. I just hope that more don't just pop up in their place.
