Core needle biopsy results yielded ILC

My gyn found the "thickening" and sent me for mammogram and ultrasound. Mammograms were negative but ultrasound positive. So biopsy followed. Results showed invasive lobular carcinoma. I have yet to meet with my "team" to go over pathology, staging, and treatment. What can I expect and what questions should I ask? I have a history of Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia in the opposite breast.

Met with MD yesterday and am having MRI today. I feel some relief as I am in good surgical hands and they are expediting my FISH test for the HER2 which was equivocal (2+). I have had MRIs in the past so am not worried about the procedure. However, now I will discover the extent of the disease and all I can do is keep my fingers crossed, stay rational, and reach out to friends and family. My husband and son are relieved from the path report but I know that there is more to do.

Thank you to all who welcomed me on the discussion board. I am now post lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. My news was very good - clean margins, negative nodes. However, in the breast tissue itself, found 3 spots of LCIS and one of ADH. I have a history of ALH in the opposite breast. I don't like that my breast have become little trash bins for every atypical cell including cancer. So I am ruminating over treatment options including prophylactic bilateral mx. Anyone with something similar. Currently, I am on antibiotics for cellulitis at the node biopsy incision. It's very sore.

Glad to hear you have more info and good news on the clear margins and negative nodes. I did not have any LCIS, but one breast could not be preserved and inelected for a pophylactic mastectomy with the other. Tough decisions for sure. I hope your infection clears up soon!
